'Attention span' is an excuse for a lack of will to resist temptation.
You can offload responsibility to a label, instead of accepting that the agency rests within you.
When the aristocracy stopped being warrior-priests who actually defended the realm and became idle rent-extractors, the chain broke because the people at the top stopped earning their place.
The great chain of being is a coherent and historically dominant framework. Everyone has a place, the place carries obligations downward as well as upward, and the system has meaning precisely because the hierarchy is understood as natural and legitimate rather than arbitrary.
The lord owes the serf protection. The serf owes the lord labour. It's a covenant rather than an exploitation.
The problem was the failure to honour the obligations that gave it legitimacy.
Evola's diagnosis of modernity is essentially: collapse wasn't of hierarchy but of the spiritual and martial qualities that justified it.
What replaced it wasn't equality but a different and less honest hierarchy; money, media and managerialism.
Moral enforcement mistakes the map for the territory. Liberal assumptions get encoded as the default, dissent from them gets flagged as dangerous, and the system never has to examine whether the assumptions are actually correct. It's cognitive dissonance institutionalised.
@Vivec_the_Poet@virlupus_@HariSel57511397 Are you ultimately trying to make out that GRRM wasn't massively inspired by Tolkien and LOTR? Or that the influence was more-so through other authors like Vance, etc.?
All that's being said is that GRRM exists in the same authorial continuity as JRRT. No Tolkien, no GoT.
@Vivec_the_Poet@virlupus_@HariSel57511397 I suppose. Same with Tad Williams.
But it's the Tolkien foundation he deliberately pushed against. We're all aware of his 'tax policies' comment.
@JulePenrose@JoeMistereigie@60sPsychJukebox It's very much an exceptional circumstance.
It doesn't matter either way. All I'm saying is: her improvisation lent an unusual weight to the production and it would seem fair that she were given proportional reward. I agree that she isn't the 'song writer'.
