Uganda breaks into global top 25 for outsourcing
At 10 a.m. on a Tuesday in Gulu, 26-year-old Amara is already deep into her workday.
Her client is in Tokyo. The assignment: rebuilding a website for a Japanese retail company. She has never been to Japan. She has never needed to. For years, many young Ugandans were told that the path to a successful career in technology led abroad -or at least to larger regional hubs such as Nairobi.
Today, that assumption is being challenged by a growing digital economy that is bringing international work directly to Uganda. Amara is one of 1,500 trained digital freelancers working through Maarifasasa Limited, a Ugandan company that serves clients across Japan, the United States, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, South Korea, Ghana and Eswatini.
According to the 2026 Global Outsourcing Talent Index, Uganda ranks 24th out of 193 countries assessed for competitiveness in outsourced digital services.
That places the country among the world’s top 13 per cent outsourcing destinations, second in the East African Community after Kenya, and among only seven African countries to make the global top 25

Protecting children online is paramount.
Parents should actively monitor their children's online activities, educate them about potential risks, and set age-appropriate parental controls.
Together, let's prioritize online safety for our children.

Today, the Commission represented by the #UCUSAF Director, @jberonda, joined Feasts Consultants International in launching the Feasts Farms Application, one of the 2023/2024 beneficiaries under the E-Booster programme in partnership with @OfficialMubs.
Feasts Farms is a #digital solution / application for farm management. The project has so far been implemented in Luwero, Wakiso, Gomba, and Kayunga districts for farmers with major emphasis on #women, #youths, & #PWDs.
As a result of this partnership, the Feasts Farms have been able to develop manuals and programmes to help farmers address extension farming delivery challenges in the agriculture value-chain ecosystem.
Currently, over 1,244 users have been registered on the Feasts Farms App.
Moving forward, the project implementer shall work with the Digital Community Champions to create more awareness about the programme, and enrol more farmers from both the pilot & other districts to create more impact in #unserved & #underserved farmers across the country.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Beronda reported to the Kayunga district leadership that the Commission has also supported the district through #ICTs #adoption & #usage under the smartphone distribution programme and has also supported over 10 government schools with computers.
"Thank you, Feast Consultants International, for the work well done in empowering farmers," he concluded.
From Bududa to the World: Muyama Florence Wakoba's Digital Awakening
In Bududa, a quiet revolution is underway, as demonstrated by Muyama Florence Wakoba, Chairperson of the Bukasabi Women's SACCO. Her journey illustrates the transformative power of digital literacy and empowerment.
For years, Muyama faced limitations in selling her coffee and onions, confined to local markets. However, a training program supported by @UCC_Official and @CapitalPenda opened her eyes to digital payments and online marketing.
"I've learnt that I can easily sell my coffee and onions to friends outside my community and receive payments directly on my phone," she states. This reflects the power of technology to connect and empower individuals.
The impact is significant as it expands her market reach beyond the local community. Secure digital transactions provide her with greater financial control and independence, boosting her income and improving her livelihood. Muyama’s journey also inspires other women to embrace digital literacy, contributing to the overall prosperity of the community.
Her story highlights the importance of digital inclusion and the belief in the potential of individuals to thrive in the digital age. Kudos to @UCC_Official and @CapitalPenda for supporting this transformative journey and empowering the women of Bududa.

The 4th cycle of device distribution to underserved households is currently underway. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide in ICT access among various segments of society.
UCC, through the Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF) seeks to create a self-sustaining cycle of technology adoption, encouraging not only the recipients but also their neighbours to acquire devices, ultimately reducing the digital divide and improving the quality of life in these communities. #Digitalinclusion #uccyange #UCUSAF #technology4all
