@VetFather_Bill I agree but there are men especially straight men who don’t defend her actions but instinctively make excuses and feel a deep empathy for women like her. These are the same men who are judges, law makers and politicians the the reason for lenient sentences passed on women.

The interesting thing about this, is that @ShelaghFogarty states "around one third of women in prison are there for 'violence against a person' offenses", and therefore most women in prison should probably be released.

And I agree, we should explore this.

What's more, that number is roughly accurate, it's actually 40% (1,369) of the women's prison population (3,439) are there for 'violence against a person' offenses.

But do you know what Shelagh didn't tell you?

An even smaller percentage of men are in prison for 'violence against a person' offenses (35%) than women.

In fact –

Even if you add up ALL violent crimes, including sexual offenses, the difference between men and women in prison for a violent crime is not so different (61% for men, and 52% for women).

And then, of course, the BIG elephant in the room, are the absolute numbers.

There are roughly 24x more men in prison than women.

And that is an essential piece of contextual information that Shelagh conveniently forgot – and if you use these absolute numbers, the number of men in prison for non-violence offenses truly dwarfs that of women.

Women in prison for non-violent crimes: 1,647
Men in prison for non-violent crimes: 32,230 (!!)

That means there are about 20 men in prison for non-violent crimes, for every one women.

The fact that Shelagh's guest, an esteemed economist @realVickyPryce no less, can nod along like some mindless zombie, even commenting that the issue of non-violent prisoners is "much, much more of an issue for women" is the rancid cherry on this giant stupid cake.

This is not journalism @LBC; it's ideological, man-hating dogma.

It is embarrassing for all those involved, and truly tragic for the tens of thousands of non-violent men in prison, who you betray and erase with your ignorance.

Society shaming men into believing that they shouldn’t want or whine for anything but to be protectors as their only role and purpose Is what has made them police one another from speaking out. So this is a step in the right direction.

This is amazing! Men need to make sure while advocating for men’s issues that the conversation isn’t derailed or steered to what’s beneficial to women and girls. We have to change men’s socially imposed views on their own manhood.

The majority of men find their identity as “protectors” their guiding principle of manhood. This is where that white knight complex comes in that makes them blind to their own oppression in today’s society.

@GB3202 @groldrush Yes but at this age restraint doesn’t mean a thing. If you understand anything about biology, Pre pubescent boys are no more stronger than girls. That comes with puberty. that rush of testosterone is a game changer between the sexes.
