Gallant is narrating this with pride as some sort of a beautiful kumbaya story.

Yoav Gallant is named after "Operation Yoav"; a major terrorist attack which his father took part in. The operation saw the carpet bombing, ethnic cleansing & full destruction of 30 Palestinian villages, including my own family's village. All the Palestinian inhabitants were loaded on trucks at gunpoint & sent to Gaza.

Gallant was the Israeli war minister that called the very people his father ethnically cleansed to Gaza "Human Animals" & vowed to ban "all food, water, medicine, fuel & electricity" to the population his father caged in this enclave.

Gallant is wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity & war crimes.

It was to whom he did it.

Hitler applied to European people the methods that Europe had been applying to African and Asian people for centuries.

The dehumanization.
The racial hierarchy.
The biological categorization that placed some human beings outside the protections extended to others.
The organized, bureaucratic, industrialized killing.

None of that was new.

The novelty was the victims.

When Léopold II ran the Congo as a personal extraction enterprise and killed an estimated ten million people — when his agents cut off the hands of Congolese workers who did not meet their rubber quotas, when they took photographs of the severed hands arranged in rows, European civilization was not seized by an unprecedented moral crisis.

It was a business story.

A question of colonial administration.

A management problem in a distant place populated by people whose deaths registered as statistics, when they registered at all.

Hitler's crime, in European memory, was not the method.

It was the application of the method to people Europe had decided were people.

That decision, who counts, is what Césaire was writing about.

It has not been adequately answered.

Here are my current #IranWar operating assumptions - what have I got wrong/what am I missing?

1. The US initiated this illegal, immoral, and unwise war in the hopes of a ‘quick win,’ and after that become unobtainable has been strategically flailing.

2. The main US goal now is to reopen the SoH, to relieve global economic pressure

3. US Military force is insufficient to open & keep open the SoH.

4. Iran sees control of the SoH as integral to its national security.

5. Military force cannot change Iranian redlines, since Iran believes capitulation on key issues will increase (not decrease) pressure on it and decrease regime viability (hence it is unlike Khomeini accepting the 1998 cease-fire).

6. The Iranian regime doesn’t trust the US administration to fulfill any commitments it makes. So unless the US is prepared to ‘collapse’ the regime into failed-state status (which one would expect the Iranian regime to react to), future use of US military force is probably counter-productive.

7. Ongoing/increased US military force will likely cause Iranian retaliation/escalation, to include against GCC infrastructure.

8. The US administration is either unwilling or unable to engage in the serious, sustained diplomacy needed to solve the SoH issue, much less the nuclear issue.

9. Significant easing of US economic pressure on Iran (easing of sanctions, unblocking of Iranian assets) is unlikely for domestic political reasons

10. The best chance for a least-bad resolution of the SoH problem are ongoing negotiations between Iran on the one side and Oman on the other, with Oman consulting with fellow GCC countries. In this scenario, all the US has to do is:

1) forego attacks during these negotiations while maintaining the naval blockade
2) approve whatever final settlement the two sides reach.

11. Short-term Iranian control of the SoH is decidedly sub-optimal but probably unavoidable.

12. US claims about the importance of preserving preserve freedom of navigation in the SoH is risible. The Trump administration believes in power, not international law, or as White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller put it:

“We live in a world in which you can talk all you want about international niceties and everything else, but we live in a world—in the real world, Jake—that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power. These are the iron laws of the world that have existed since the beginning of time.”

سال‌ها پس از انقلاب، نه تنها آثار و نامش ممنوع بود، که حقوق بازنشستگی و اندک اموالش را توقیف کرده بودند.

چند سالی پیش از آن‌که بابت تنهایی و تنگدستی، به ضرب بیماری برای همیشه خاموش شود، مسئولان فرهنگی حکومت فرومایگان به آپارتمان محقرش رفتند، به قصد دلجویی و برگزاری مراسم بزرگداشت او!

دکتر فریدون آدمیت همان پاسخی را داد که دهه‌ها پیش در کتاب “امیرکبیر و ایران” از نامه‌ی امیر، پیش از کشته شدنش، آورده بود:

«از ��دا مرگ می‌خواهم که این روزهای زیادتی را نبی��م»

تاریخ نگار تراز اول این سرزمین، دیپلمات برجسته جوانترین سفیر ایران در سازمان ملل، داور دیوان بین المللی لاهه و معاون وزیر خارجه که بابت اعتراض به جدایی بحرین از ایران بازنشسته‌اش کردند، پیش‌تر در نامه‌ای به وزیر نوشته بود:

«حکومت ِقانون، تبعیض بردار نیست»

عضو ارشد و دبیر کانون نویسندگان ایران و نویسنده و پژوهشگری که با وجود ده ها کتاب و رساله ی کم نظیر، جز تلخی ندید.

به لطف قطع حقوق بازنشستگی و توقیف زندگیش در حکومت ِسفلگان، سال‌ها در عسرت زندگی سر کرد، اما هرگز در برابر حرامیان سر خم نکرد!

و شعارش تا به آخر این بود:

«ایران می‌ماند و مردم» /۱

فریدون آدمیت با وجود تمامی خوار داشت‌ها و تنبیه‌ها، ده‌ها کتاب و مقاله‌ی بی‌مانند نوشت و دین خود را به این خاک به‌تمام ادا کرد.

«اعتبار واقعی با ستایشگری قهرمانی برای کسی حاصل نگردد. بلکه باید در شخصیت حقیقی و کارنامه خود او متحقق باشد.

شب نگردد روشن از اسم چراغ!»

او که در فراز درخشانی در کتاب “اندیشه‌های میرزا آقاخان کرمانی” اثری که تا مدت‌ها به دلیل فشار روحانیون، اجازه‌ی انتشار نداشت، خطاب به نسل جوان نوشته بود:

«بدانید در این مرز و بوم همیشه مردمی هوشمند و آزاده بوده‌اند که به پَستی تن در نداده و روحشان را به ارباب خودسر و نادان و ناپرهیزگار نفروختند»

- دکتر فریدون آدمیت ۱۰۶ ساله شد!

۱۴/۱۴
