Remember the strip opposite my house that the neighbour mowed? He was just about to mow it again, but I chatted to him and he’s left it (for now). If you explain the benefits then more areas might be left. #pollinators#wildlifegardening#invertebratedecline@LGSpace#notomow
First of 3 Bee Basic examination sessions organised by @LondonBeeKeeper for its members. This practical exam helps new beekeepers cement their knowledge and build up confidence in their ability to care for honeybees and keep them healthy. Good luck to all candidates!
.@Love_plants ’s new campaign #EveryFlowerCounts urges people to leave areas of their lawn unmown to help provide more nectar for pollinators.
This is one of five simple actions in our #BeesNeeds campaign 🐝, find out what the other four are: https://t.co/1r19pLBcfK
@FossilFreeUCL Completely agree. Equally an ongoing and misguided focus on honey bees over any of our more threatened solitary bee species doesn’t help communicate the urgent narrative of ecological collapse.
Our tweet is certainly not an endorsement, just a current item of news.
24 hours ago this tiny strip was full of Ox eye, Vetch, St Johns Wort, Lady’s Bedstraw, grasshopper nymphs and more. I guess twas too untidy. Scale this up to UK level and its one reason for wildlife decline. #greenspaces#wildlifegardening#insectdecline@LGSpace#biodiversity
Collectively, honeybees are able to achieve an incredible level of sophistication—especially considering their brains are the size of sesame seeds https://t.co/qF50BOZua3
Today Mike Waller from @WildLondon came to survey the rare ‘green winged orchids’ on the @Nomura green roof. We think we have the largest population in the UK growing on a green roof. We have 5 plants! @NHM_Botany@CoLCityGdns
Apologies for the shaky footage, we got in a flap ourselves capturing this Dark- edged bee-fly as they are usually too fast to film. This one was warming up for flight on a garden wall in Newport and despite its name and looks it's not a bee it's actually a fly!#MyWildNewport
Badger, Toad, Mole and Ratty find themselves in serious trouble when they return to the Willows! Join us for a #WilderFuture and play your part in nature’s recovery: https://t.co/J0MRBrvTkE
Congrats to our Mark for Urban Food Award: ‘Good Food on Prescription: Enterprises helping people’s mental health & wellbeing through growing and production of good food’. This is for Mark’s beekeeping and gardening with special needs kids. Very well deserved, well done Mark.
Lots of trees coming into bloom at @mudchute isle of dogs today. No sign of any early flying Andrena pilipes yet though. The farm hosts a population of this scarce bee which is unusual in that its inland. Most of its nest sites in Britain are vertical cliffs along the south coast
Please sign this petition. A lot of #wildlife (including #bees) depend on hedges:
Petition: Make 'netting' hedgerows to prevent birds from nesting a criminal offence.
