If we are going to call the cost of public services a “loss,” then Canadian police forces lost $20 billion last year while delivering no birthday presents and also killing a lot of people.
The Toronto Port Authority is holding their AGM on June 11th. I read their Financial Statements - and they raise big red flags about their hasty support of Doug Ford’s plan to bring jets to Billy Bishop Airport:
1) Ridership is down at Billy Bishop
2) Billy Bishop is relying on higher operating fees to prop up revenue
3) Based on current revenue, they’d have to forego any profit for between 80-300 years to pay for the expansion
4) Based on their 2017 Environmental Assessment, the decision was made against introducing jets, and those conditions have gotten worse - not better
Here’s my letter to the Toronto Port Authority. The public deserves answers to the following questions:
Mamdani: "Of the Margret Thatcher quote, the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. If anything my friends, it seems you eventually need a socialist to clean up the mess."
I still have no idea why @TinaYazdani was forced to leave City News but she and her colleagues at the @Thetrilliumca are absolutely killing it with stories like this. https://t.co/5AdMFSFXS6
The level of ignorance here is beyond belief... Ford is at a photo op announcing how he is spending $1B on a new Science Centre instead of $30M in repairs on the current one, and then says he "prides himself" on saving money???
Now that IntegrityTO has flamed out and won’t get free AM radio talk time to echo Brad Bradford, a new coalition of weirdos and dark money has arrived
Yammering on about something they’ve done zero research on, just saying dumb things to create controversy
The abominable treatment of civilians aboard the flotilla, including that which is documented in footage shared by Itamar Ben-Gvir, is unacceptable.
Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has directed officials to summon the Israeli ambassador to demand assurances regarding the safety and security of Canadians involved.
Canada has already imposed strict sanctions on Mr. Ben-Gvir, including asset freezes and a travel ban, in response to his repeated incitement of violence. The protection of civilians and respect for human dignity must be upheld everywhere, at all times.
Good. @cityofstratford is launching a legal challenge against Strong Mayor legislation, which undermines the power of local municipal councils in ON. The right to effective representation is enshrined in the Charter, which @fordnation constantly disregards https://t.co/p7aQp70sN5
With no business case, Ford claims the airport will generate $8.5 billion in economic activity with the load of 10 million passengers.
For context: Pearson moves 47.3 million passengers and generates $17.7 billion.
Ford conveniently ignores the costs—jets roaring over Toronto’s waterfront every 2.5 minutes, one of Canada’s top tourist destinations.
No business case. No evidence. Just vibes.
