The current decline isn’t that significant in the west. The current decline is much more significant elsewhere. The US birthrate was at 1.7 by the mid 1970s. It went back up to around 1.9 for whites and then now came back down to around 1.6 for whites. It’s not that significant of a change. The large changes come from previously less industrialized areas such as Latin America and South Asia.

Can’t be. Birthrates decline at the point of industrialization. They started declining in the early 1800s in the US and England. In the 1700s in France. By the 1920s-1930s most of Western Europe was below replacement TFR. Industrialization marks the point when child labor becomes useless.

I looked up the biggest hoes from my HS and college and googled who they married. There doesn’t appear to be anything low status about them. When I was 27, a guy in college lied to me and said he was my age. He drove from his college campus several hours away in another state to go on dates with me. This went on for several weeks before I found out. A guy on a coed campus that had more women than men at the university did this.

I do not do a single thing when my kids are newborns. My mom lives 8 min away and I can afford house cleaner and nanny. I do not cook, clean or take care of my other kids that much when I have a newborn. All I do is feed, burp, change, clean the baby, maybe file nails sometimes. Change linens for baby. Newborn time is newborn time only over here.

Some underlying biological factors are also relevant to the discussion. Breastfeeding moms typically handle more frequent night wakings (especially in the early months), yet they still get more deep sleep than non-postpartum women, presumably more than dads would.

Rare? How? All of my kids get up at night from time to time. I always only deal with the baby and my husband deals with eveyone else at night. I did 100% of night feedings. Breastfed my kids for 18 months each. But after about 2.5 years, if they get up, they go to dad. He ended up getting up a lot too in the end.
