Today’s #ObjectOfTheWeek is an Intelligence Corps Volunteers insignia patch. The Territorial Army Volunteer Reserve (TAVR) was the name given to the active-duty volunteer reserve force of the British Army from 1967 to 1979, when it became the Territorial Army (TA).

French-born Odette Sansom GC, MBE, served as a courier for the Spindle network with F Section (SOE) during the Second World War. This covert sabotage unit was Sir Winston Churchill's secret weapon, tasked to "set Europe ablaze."

SOE was also known as the 'Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare'. Ironic since so many of its front line agents were women.

On 18 September 1944 a Dakota crashed in the field behind the monument. 24 men died in the crash, 6 US airmen and 18 British paratroopers. After the war the British were buried at Jonkerbos CWGC cemetery. The Americans were repatriated home or buried at Margraten Cemetery.

The @CWGC is a jewell in Britain’s crown.

The small though beautiful cemetery in #Digboi in northern Assam receives few visitors, but is a wonderful testament to the diligence and care taken to look after our war dead.

This cemetery is populated by many from Operation Thursday in 1944, and the subsequent operations in Mogaung and the Railway Corridor.
