Half-Life 2's VR Mods Charts a Path Other Games Should Follow
Valve’s hands-off approach with the modders porting Half-Life 2 and its sequels to VR should serve as a good example for other game developers.

Welp, it looks like I'll be going with the PC version when I reach Uncharted 4!
Maybe if I procrastinate long enough, all the games on my massive backlog will eventually get VR mods 🤔
🔥 Uncharted 4: A Thief's End & Uncharted: The Lost Legacy VR Mods Released! 🔥
After a lot of work, Luke Ross modded two more fantastic games into full 6DOF VR!
Both games support his AER 2.0 tech and allow you to truly be in the entirety of these epic adventures for the first time!
New video up going over the pros/cons of #AppleVisionPro for #VR gamers. I know some were hoping it'd be a competitor to the Quest, etc., so I figured I'd take a shot at predicting how a headset with no controllers could affect the wider #XR market.

Another metaverse/#VR article where the author did one Google search as research and called it a day. This isn't just a bad take, it's wholly inaccurate:
"Decentraland, arguably the largest and most relevant Metaverse platform"
News outlets: Do better.

@andreeavr@yinch I think the thing I love most about VR is how seamlessly it can blend elements of all three mediums to create wholly new experiences. It's why I enjoyed attending the various XR arts festivals online for years, though unfortunately most are back to in-person-only events now.
Here's a quick recap of some of the biggest VR stories from June!

I'm pretty sure since it's not midnight where I'm at, this still counts is getting it up by the 1st lol 🤔
To the ‘friction in VR isn’t a big deal’ crowd, I’d like to point out that social media video apps have adopted portrait video because people don’t want to rotate their phones to watch in landscape. Next time you think ‘5 minutes of setup isn’t a big deal’, just remember that.
Day #121: And we're in!
- PSVR2 was blocking VR modes by saying it couldn't do DSC
- We modified an AMD Open Source Linux GPU driver to force DSC
- Now we know how to put the PSVR2 into VR mode, so we can design some hardware to do it on Windows
- "Can PSVR2 be used on PC?" - Yes
@VRmaninJapan Yup. It is surprising that they'd basically lock themselves out of the industrial and research space like that. I'd assumed they'd go after use cases where Hololens, etc. is already prevalent but, like you said, it sounds like it's basically a very nice, seated display.
Well, I definitely didn't have this on my bingo card for this week! 😲
Thank you so much to everyone who has checked out my videos so far, I truly do appreciate it. And I'll do my best to keep making #VR content that folks want to watch!

Apple limiting users to a 3m x 3m area reinforces my belief that it's not at all interested in this being a #VR gaming device, probably excepting stuff like Candy Crush.
This is great news for gamers. It'll likely lead companies like Meta to double down on gaming features.
@VRmaninJapan Disappointing, but I'm not entirely surprised given Apple's positioning it as an AR headset. They don't need roomscale for AppleTV+, Safari, and Candy Crush AR.
I still think anyone expecting full-featured games, let alone VR ones, is setting themselves up for disappointment.
Just a quick heads-up, it looks like @VirtexStadium is going to be doing a test of their setup this weekend. I'm not a #Valorant fan but I'm intrigued to see how their #VR stadium works. You can request access on the Steam page.
