@wmkenkel The former may have more societal impact and is incentivised in industry (and not published), but academia incentives the latter due to pubs and citations (arguably lesser impact for society). As someone that straddles both ind/ac, I'd love to see less of a rift between the two.
Mainstream psychiatry woke up to the potential medical value of psychedelic research ca. 2016. I suspect 2024 might be the year that mainstream cognitive neuroscience finally wakes up to their scientific value.
