@free encore une panne prolongée (dernier mardi), surtout quand je voyager ?? Quel est l’utilité d'un réseau étranger s'il ne fonctionne que la moitié du temps
@john_lichfield Thanks John. As you say, no clear conclusions. Leaving aside the adjoints de sécurité (which I don't hear a lot about), it appears that cadet recruitment is not bringing in sufficient numbers of ethnic minorities to become representative
@john_lichfield Thanks, much appreciated. Understand about the bar on racial data collection but thought that if surveyors could find as notable finding as >50% vote for the far-right, they might also find a way to infer ethnic origin or similar.
Hi @john_lichfield wondering if you know of any good compilation of stats or long reads on the composition of French police (incl FR lang)? Fundamentally, how much do they reflect society from a demographic and social class perspective? Thanks
@semaforben@maxwelltani Hey Max - just on the Slate membership revenue growth, they more than doubled the cost of Plus late last year. 50% growth would imply they shed a lot of subscribers (incl myself) as a result. They’ve fallen way behind Vox Media as my main podcast company
@Jason@jason ok but thank god you clapped back on Sacks in the last podcast, I was close to stopping listening after weeks and weeks of cozying up to Putin. Your point on Ukraine being merely Putin’s first step to restoring the USSR is exactly right
@DecoderPod@reckless@photomatt Nilay what do you think has stopped an industry-funded moderation body from being set up? I.e. one where the social media can offload their responsibility to an “independent” moderator but still have influence. Seems like the inevitable compromise b/w govt control vs free-for-all
@graham_douglas @MotionNino Hi Graham and Nino, I beg of you - please convince someone to remove these pop-up ads from The Economist website, it's just such annoying and incongruous UX. Put them on the side, anything.
@verge@DecoderPod Hey Nilay @reckless could you do a decoder on the use of big consultancies in tech and creative? I had no idea McK had been in at Disney and Apple? It’s so anti the image that tech and creative firms project
@campbellclaret@RoryStewartUK@RestIsPolitics Rory and Alastair - growth doesn’t necessarily mean more physical production, it could mean better (i.e. more expensive physical production) or digital services. We need sustainable, green growth to bring billions of people out of poverty (and pay back debt…)
@ljstone09 Hi Lucy, just wondering where you got the 7% of Spain national grid stat from? Would like to use it in a paper. Statista is showing 2% in 2021 but hopefully it’s gone up since then? https://t.co/yOsrLno52m
@gordoncorera@TheRestHistory@holland_tom@dcsandbrook According to @TheLocalFrance, the French Defence Ministry still has a special carrier pigeon unit – one troop of pigeons lives not far outside of Paris, in a 19th-century fortress in Surenes. Like in China, the 120 carrier pigeons are back-ups if telecommunications are ever down.
