I plan to use nutrition as a PA by guiding patients to avoid fad diets, popular press articles, and making them feel comfortable by avoiding fat shaming or biases. I will try to understand the patients lifestyle and find a treatment that will be easy to follow. @beh353#beh353
@manognadumpala@beh353 Hi Manogna, I agree holistic approaches are better when applicable for patients due to all the side effects associated with medications. Changing a patients diet while accommodating their lifestyle can be key in healthcare. @beh353#beh353
Healthy diet is an important factor in preventing chronic illnesses and cancer. As a PA I will try to promote healthy diet alternatives to keep my patients healthy instead of prescribing multiple medications. @beh353#beh353
@EmmaDArpinoRD Since the lecture mentioned how Dieticians can help with almost all illnesses, I thought this would also connect with an RDs line of work. If patients have family history of dementia, RDs can work with them to delay onset. @beh353#beh353
@SuAhShin_@EmmaDArpinoRD@beh353 Hi there! I definitely agree with you. I found it interesting how @EmmaDArpinoRD mentioned that people shouldn’t give nutrition advice. We see posts and articles on fad diets and how they can be life changing. I’m glad we have RDs to correct these advices. @beh353#beh353
@EmmaDArpinoRD Thank you for shedding light on the importance of dietician’s in diff medical settings. I didn’t know much about the field so it was interesting to know how RDs can work in hospital settings as well. @beh353#beh353
This was retweeted by @DrDavidKatz. Since we talked about special diets based on age and situations like pregnancy, this would be relevant. Also a diet for overweight, underweight, or diabetic pregnancies should be personalized accordingly. @beh353#beh353
Nutrition, just like medicine, isn’t one-size-fits-all. Tune in to hear Christopher Gardner walk you through the hot topic of personalized nutrition which asserts that the best diet for you may look very different than the best diet for another.

@PhoebeSeto@beh353 Hi Phoebe, I was looking for articles on diet for pregnant women and my article also talked about calorie intake. It's interesting because usually pregnant women are told to eat double their normal intake culturally even though it's unnecessary. @beh353#beh353
If I had a patient who was pregnant, I would ask them to look over the following article because it talks about avoiding processed grains, unpasteurized dairy, added sugars, caffeine, and mercury foods. #beh353@beh353

The article mentions how healthcare practitioners aren’t given classes reflecting the importance of food in medicine. It’s important to provide patients good options for diets and use it as preventative medicine instead of neglecting them thinking they are ‘lazy’ @beh353#beh353
If you’re looking for a great documentary for tonight, @Gather paints an “intimate portrait of the growing movement amongst Native Americans to reclaim their spiritual, political and cultural identities through food sovereignty, while battling the trauma of centuries of genocide.
@JBaker1002@beh353 Hi Julie, I agree with you. Patient care should be about compassion and respect. It’s wrong in many ways to refuse treating a patient just because they are 200 pounds. It would make the patient’s trust in healthcare decrease and not want to be treated. @beh353#beh353
The video showed how patients are treated differently and diagnosis is neglected because of obesity. A patient had a tumor growing but the doctor ignored it as body fat. As a PA, I hope to avoid such biases by respecting and properly diagnosing patients @beh353#beh353
I think many people were sitting home all day, not exercising, eating unhealthy foods ,and gained a lot of weight. Gym's were closed and people avoided going outside. I think this could be a factor for high death rates. #beh353@beh353
@SDela_22@beh353 Hi Shanell, since poverty is related to obesity, this could be a great way to target the health of poor children by offering nutrient dense meals instead of cheaper fast food alternatives. Thanks for sharing! #beh353@beh353
I didn't know that there was a gene that contributed to obesity. I would personally make an effort to avoid the topic because sometimes obese people are trying really hard but genetics and medical conditions like thyroid prevent weight loss. #beh353@beh353
