Every immigration form asks countless questions.
But one question can change everything:
“Did you have a choice?”
For Iranian conscripts, that distinction deserves serious consideration.

Imagine being forced into military service just to get a job or leave the country, and then getting treated like you picked that life. Young guys in Iran don't have a choice, and it's time people get that.

Canada to Iranian conscripts: “You were forcibly assigned to the IRGC 20 years ago, so you may be labeled a terrorist and denied Canada.”
But to alleged regime-connected individuals and real IRGC members : “Here’s a government contract and your pr or canadian citizenship .”
Following Iran Accountability Week, Persian Mirror Media interviewed Kaveh Shahrooz to discuss human rights concerns in Iran and the importance of holding the Iranian regime accountable for its actions.
The conversation also highlighted a critical issue affecting Iranian former mandatory conscripts in Canada, who are facing serious immigration consequences despite having been compelled to complete mandatory service. Their situation raises important questions about human rights, fairness, and the need to distinguish forced conscription from voluntary membership or support for the regime.
These voices deserve to be heard, and their cases deserve fair and individual consideration.

Parliament can debate legislative reform, but families need action now. @GarnettGenuis@AliEhsassi, please press for interim policy clarity while pursuing a lasting solution inspired by Bill C-350. Canada can hold genuine perpetrators accountable without equating forced conscription with voluntary involvement. #ConscriptsAreNotMembers
Behind every forced conscript's immigration file is a family waiting, worrying, and struggling with uncertainty. These are not just documents. They are people's lives, relationships, and mental well-being. #ConscriptsAreNotMembers#JusticeForIranianConscripts
Iranian parents should be able to focus on raising their children, not constantly worrying about a forced conscription from the past. Families deserve clarity, fairness, and the chance to live in peace. #ConscriptsAreNotMembers#JusticeForIranianConscripts
We love Canada and respect its commitment to safety and security. We came here to build a peaceful future, not to escape one injustice only to face another. Forced conscripts deserve fairness.

Compulsory service is not a choice, and it is not proof of guilt. Iranian conscripts assigned to the IRGC must not be classified as IRGC members simply because of their mandatory service. Canada must clearly recognize this distinction and protect innocent people from unjust consequences.

These men already lost two years of their youth to compulsory service in Iran, and now they're losing years waiting in Canadian immigration limbo. Making people suffer twice for a forced choice makes zero sense.
