Visiting Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kalobeyei Settlement and the larger Turkana County this week was a deeply grounding experience. Standing in one of the world’s most longstanding refugee-hosting areas (home to more than 317,000 refugees and asylum seekers) is a powerful reminder of both the scale of displacement and the resilience of the people who live here.
Together with colleagues from @UNHCR_Kenya and the County of Turkana, I saw firsthand how Kenya is shifting from a camp-based approach toward inclusive, sustainable refugee management under the SHIRIKA Plan. Sweden is proud to support this transition.
@TurkanaCountyKE
Met with H.E. Governor Lomorukai of @TurkanaCountyKE to discuss ongoing efforts towards enhanced refugee management, including improved access to documentation and strengthened county and national coordination towards refugee inclusion and integration. It was encouraging to talk about practical steps and areas of collaboration with Kenya as it advances the SHIRIKA Plan. We also had the opportunity to discuss Swedish support in the areas of agriculture and climate resilience.
The Deputy President reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to closer collaboration between the Commission and State departments to improve coordination, enhance efficiency in service delivery, and eliminate duplication of mandates across institutions. He further underscored the vital role of independent constitutional bodies in strengthening accountability, constitutionalism and inclusive governance, and emphasised the need to safeguard the Commission’s autonomy as it delivers on its mandate of promoting equality and protecting vulnerable groups.
The Commission appreciates H.E. Hon. Prof. @_KithureKindiki for his steadfast support to the equality and social inclusion agenda. The assurance of strengthened collaboration across Government signals renewed momentum towards advancing equal opportunities, dignity and protection for all Kenyans.
We remain committed to a Kenya where every person—regardless of gender, age, disability or background—enjoys equal rights, fair opportunity and full participation in national life.

Pleased to have engaged with H.E. Dmitry Lubinskiy, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, on the margins of #CCPCJ35.
I reaffirmed @UNODC’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in addressing evolving transnational threats, including cybercrime, corruption and maritime crime.
We further exchanged views on ongoing collaboration in building law enforcement capacities to investigate drug trafficking across Central Asia and North Africa, and discussed ways of reinforcing UNODC’s counter-terrorism work.

Huge congratulations to Bodhana Sivanandan on becoming England’s top female chess player at just 11 years old.
We once played each other in the Downing Street garden. Let’s just say her success has not come as a shock!
We deeply cherish our long-standing friendship and relationship with the family of Hon. Charles Keter and his wife Mrs. Winnie Keter. As such, we are glad to witness their beloved daughter, Tracy Keter beginning the fulfilling journey of love and commitment with her fiancé, Robin Bett. Public budgets shape everyday life—who benefits, who is left behind, and who gets opportunities.
The Commission’s Isiolo, Garissa, and Nakuru Regional Offices have commenced County Engagement and Capacity-Building Forums on Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB) in Isiolo County.
Supported by the Millennium Water Alliance and its consortium partners—CRS and CARE International—the forums are equipping county executives, county assemblies, and development partners with practical tools to ensure that planning and budgeting processes respond to the real needs of communities.
Research consistently shows that public budgets are often gender-neutral in design but unequal in impact—failing to account for the different realities of women, men, youth, and persons with disabilities. This can result in underinvestment in critical areas such as healthcare, water access, care services, education, and social protection, disproportionately affecting vulnerable groups, and deepening inequality.
Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB) addresses this gap by ensuring that resources are allocated fairly, policies are inclusive, and outcomes are measurable—so that development reaches those who need it most. It shifts budgeting from a routine financial exercise to a powerful tool for equity, accountability, and social justice.
These forums will also be rolled out across Marsabit County, Mandera County, Garissa County, and Turkana County, strengthening a coordinated approach to inclusive governance and sustainable development across counties.
When budgets are inclusive, development is inclusive.

Today, I presided over the presentation of the National Heroes Award to Dr. Manu Chandaria, in recognition of his exceptional contribution to national development and philanthropy.
Dr. Chandaria’s work in healthcare, education, enterprise development, and social empowerment has had immense impact across the country, particularly in expanding access to essential services and strengthening institutional capacity. His commitment to supporting vulnerable students through scholarship programmes, alongside investments in medical infrastructure and skills development initiatives, continues to open opportunities for many Kenyans.
As a founder and leader in key private sector institutions, his role in advancing economic policy and regional business growth remains significant. His contributions also extend globally, reflecting a consistent record of service and leadership.
This recognition, first conferred by H.E. @WilliamsRuto during the 2025 Mashujaa Day celebrations, affirms a lifetime dedicated to public good.
I commend Dr. Chandaria for his enduring service and for setting a clear example of responsible leadership and national contribution.
Breaking barriers to decent work for persons with disabilities.
Today, the Commission hosted Riziki Source to explore strategic collaboration aimed at confronting the systemic challenges that continue to limit access to meaningful employment for persons with disabilities.
Discussions were grounded in well-documented barriers—ranging from inaccessible workplaces and transport systems, limited access to inclusive education and skills development, and persistent workplace stigma and discrimination, to gaps in reasonable accommodation, assistive technologies, and enforcement of inclusive labour policies. These constraints often confine persons with disabilities to informal, low-income, or excluded labour markets, despite their skills and potential.
The engagement focused on practical, scalable solutions: strengthening inclusive recruitment practices, promoting workplace accessibility, advancing skills development aligned to market needs, and supporting employers to implement reasonable accommodation measures. Emphasis was also placed on shifting societal attitudes and ensuring that inclusion is embedded across both public and private sector employment systems.
The conversation reinforced a clear priority—inclusive employment is not charity; it is a right, a driver of economic growth, and a pathway to dignity and independence.
Strengthening these partnerships is essential to unlocking opportunities and ensuring that persons with disabilities can participate fully and equally in the world of work.
