What is the relationship between the connectome and the functional properties of the brain? In my new paper we address this relationship in C. elegans using a connectome-constrained whole-brain model to capture how neurons respond to perturbation

@neuro_data@jpillowtime 3. As you point out, this suggests that the connectome is highly involved in generating functional interactions. Although it exists in biology, extrasynaptic communication was not necessary to include in the model. Thanks for the feedback! Did that answer your question?
@neuro_data@jpillowtime 2. To address this, we linked anatomy and function with a linear dynamical system which we constrained to the connectome and fit to neural recordings. This model captured both correlations and perturbation responses and performs far worse if constrained to a shuffled connectome.

@united cancelled my flight 3 hours before take off. Then their refund system tried to *charge* me $30. Meanwhile, when I didn’t show up to my hotel @HiltonHotels called me. Without me asking they immediately refunded my night. Ocean of difference between these two companies
If you’re at #Cosyne2024 come check out my poster tonight 1-164. I’ll talk about how we can use whole-brain modeling to describe how a connectome can generate neural activity!
Check out our newest preprint! https://t.co/NNsBc9uAIM Releasing C. elegans dauer connectome, the last piece of the C. elegans connectomes across development. Work led by talented students @HyunsooYim, @dantae_choe with great collaborators. @SNUNow, @EinsteinMed , #SKKU#KBRI 1/n

New publication in J. Neuro (https://t.co/fWIN7jZJbn): the least biased available estimator of tuning curve correlation. Highly relevant to anyone evaluating the similarity of neuronal tuning (this is a lot of people). The classic estimator r^2 is heavily biased. 1/5
Excited to share Nirag Kadakia's discovery that flies smell odor motion and use it to navigate odor plumes, published today in @Nature. Great collaboration between our lab and that of Damon Clark. Read it here: https://t.co/57LzUiNBNA and News and Views: https://t.co/ZAsHdOqEt0

Finally out! Proud to present the collaborative effort where we systematically mapped neuropeptide-GPCR interactions biochemically (https://t.co/utkoytWUqC) and constructed an in silico map of neuropeptide signaling in the worm brain https://t.co/e0j10fNUB2
@KordingLab To the poll: in my experience people most often respond dismissively because they believe the science speaks for itself and p values are just a little hat. Its not the best, but also not the worst.
@KordingLab My favorite lighthearted example is when a professor called themselves out... accidentally. They laid out the classic mistake of:
"Exp A shows significance. Exp B does not show significance. Therefore A is different from B."
Then makes this mistake themselves 5 slides later 😆
Following the weekend buzz about long range sequence modeling, let me tell you about our work on S5: a simple state space layer that achieves top-level performance and efficiency with parallel scans. (E.g. 98.58% on Path-X!) 🧵[1/12]
