TECH FRIENDS, just wondering, if I were to set up a tech mentoring scheme for young adults in Iraq and Kurdistan would you take part?
I see so many great kids in Iraq teaching themselves how to code (and more!) with terrible materials, a mentor could go a long way.
We’re a non-profit community venture trying to survive in precarious times. When you buy our merch (some as cheap at £3!) you help keep us going. Guess what else? We ship internationally! You can check out our shop on our website: https://t.co/pjDhEp2o59
It's shocking that nearly half of all @refugees are children. They deserve safe, stable childhoods to play, learn and grow up with their families. Everyone can make a difference to help them. Every action counts: https://t.co/QFFaQ64lwA #WorldRefugeeDay
2/2 our family in the diaspora is now spread between refugee camps in Bethlehem, East Jerusalem and Ramallah, as well as a bit further in camps in Jordan. Some of us are in Amman, and elsewhere around the world.
1/2 Remembering my father and grandparents today on #WorldRefugeeDay my father was only three years old when his family were forcibly displaced from West Jerusalem in 1948. He was the only one of his siblings to be born in Jerusalem - all of whom were then born in refugee camps.
We should know as much about the atrocities committed by British governments in the 20th Century as the Germans do about theirs. But most people in the UK would have no idea what I’m referring to.

‘I’m scared of lockdown coming to an end. I’m scared of racist abuse. My community is scared of what could happen to us if we report it...scared of the institutions that are supposed to keep us safe and protect our rights...’ @mariko_hys https://t.co/GS9BxEJIA4 #MigrantVoices
Feels absolutely wild to have broken this record 🤯 My work stands on the shoulders of so many Black British literary giants - Bernadine Evaristo, Benjamin Zephaniah, Zadie Smith, Andrea Levy, Stella Dadzie, Stuart Hall, Linton K Johnson, Jackie Kay, Gary Younge - to name a few.
Just had to retweet this for a second time. Wish I could have a recurring tweet. Hell I might even print a poster - if @iamlisako gives me permission to!
"We’re told local capacity doesn’t exist, or that we are victims of an overly professionalised sector, requiring perfectly written English language reports to HQ & donors. This mindset, and more precarious contracts for local staff, devalues their contribution and labour..." /2
"The general reliance on international staff for positions which could be performed just as well, if not better, by local hires is difficult to justify..." https://t.co/nL1X65amqU /1
