This is funny but my experience with IT has been:
Hello I am unable to see or manipulate images or edit text boxes in this markup software. I have tried multiple fixes and need help.
3 weeks go by.
They uninstall/reinstall the software. It still does not work. Ticket closed.
User called me this morning saying their mouse "isn't working right."
I remote in. The mouse is fine. Their entire desktop is covered in 847 icons. Files, shortcuts, folders, screenshots, downloads, all just... everywhere. No organization.
I ask when the last time they organized it was.
They say "organized?"
I tell them to move everything into a folder.
They ask if I can do it remotely.
I say yes, but they should learn to do this themselves.
They say "that's what I'm paying you for."
I select all 847 items and drag them to the trash.
I tell them their mouse should work better now.
They say it does work better.
I close the ticket.
They'll realize what I did in about three days when they can't find anything. They'll call me panicking.
I'll tell them everything's in the Recycle Bin for 30 more days and I can restore it if they ask nicely.
I know they won't ask nicely. They'll demand it.
But I'll restore it anyway, and that will close another ticket, which gets me closer to my bonus.
It's 11:00 AM. I have 23 more tickets. None of them are real problems.
I'm going to lunch.
One day I woke up and decided I wanted to do a stop motion animation. So I animated a simple run cycle, printed each frame and stuck them around my city ✨️
(Which btw, I felt super guilty about)
My mom goes to elderly university for free in China. It is probably the best thing they have done for elderly. She likes it so much. You can take any subject you like, no exam, no certificate, just learning for fun. She’s now learning gardening, music, philosophy, and some geopolitics. There are farmers travelling all the way to the school everyday to learn. This is 1000x better than stupid elderly home which basically kill elderly quickly rather than care.
@BenShindel@alcibiades5410 It’s not a redefinition. The business wants to influence you to do something so they employ a tactic that you’re not always conscious of, that’s a manipulation. If you gain value and have a good time along the way, that’s great.
@BenShindel@alcibiades5410 The only implication here is it being to the advantage of the one who’s doing it. Creating value or an experience that is positive for the consumer through additional layers of atmosphere can be just that if it leads to the end goal of sales. 2B or 3 both apply. Anyway gotta go.
@BenShindel@alcibiades5410 When food is involved scent is a byproduct and this conversation gets messier but yes lmao I am being influenced by it to get more. You’re trying to reframe this but they are the same.
@BenShindel I wouldn’t say so, manipulate has a more underhanded connotation but it does not explicitly imply working against the interest of the person, more to the benefit of the one doing it. It could also be apt as there is testing and influence happening often unknown to the consumer.
