@birchlse Still waiting for someone to explain the practical value of these breakthroughs. Not denying that there may be massive implications, but I and 99% of people have no idea what this means.
@aquariusacquah Hmm, good point. Thats why I’m always underwhelmed by thrillers and action movies where the protagonist kills a lot of bad guys. Can tell he never actually killed anyone IRL
@AJA_Cortes Bought a cheapo roman chair on Amazon this year, legit changed my life. Isometric holds progressed to unweighted reps and then weighted reps has significantly improved the low back pain and muscle weakness I’d developed after herniating a disc in 2022
I don’t disagree with this take, I’m more reacting to the overwhelming amount of kneejerk responses in the replies that indicate younger people refuse to even entertain the possibility of letting someone work in (or asking someone to work in). Agree that one should never expect someone to automatically let them work in, but the consensus in the replies is more stark than your reasonable approach. The idea that under no circumstances should someone ask to work in is what troubles me. I think people are terrified of being put in a position where they have to tell another person no, or fear the awkwardness and unpredictability of a negotiating access to a shared IRL space, so they just default to “do not perceive me or make any imposition on my ability to act like I’m working out in a private gym”
Autistic behavior like this antithetical to a functional society. Act like a robot all you want, but don’t be surprised when actual humans think you’re a weirdo. People don’t ask to work in because they want to “chit chat”, they’re trying to efficiently work out in a crowded public gym. If anyone is acting entitled, it’s you
@pbprot My theory is that a big percentage of what gets called efficiency gains will actually just be more honest and accurate billing. A lot harder to use a huge data room to pad your hours when everyone knows you’re not actually reviewing the huge data room
@deanwball “We” are not screwed. You and the frontier labs are screwing normal people who didn’t ask for this. Don’t act like you have no agency in this
@zeta_globin There’s literally millions of us, the 24/7 grinders are actually a minority in the city. They’re don’t realize it because they’re narcissists
@constans There’s been an uptick in psychos on the trains the last few weeks. Had been pretty quiet for months. Anecdotally and paranoiacally, COVID is going around rn, wonder if some of the post-COVID brain and mood effects are partially to blame
I think that’s true when you’re single or childless and live in Manhattan and you’re mainly concerned with immediate consumption of goods/experiences . But once you’re married or have kids or just decide to live in Brooklyn, 500k makes it much more feasible to buy an apartment or have your spouse stay at home or send your kid to private school. And even before that, five years of being single at 500k gives you a way better chance to actually save up money to eventually do those things
