The worst part about AI engineering is how often does everyone think their weird esoteric bullshit actually matters.

I think it's a combination of sycophancy + non-determinism + models getting better so fast that you can associate model improvements with random changes you made to your environment. The result is that everyone's brains fall out as they overthink things that don't matter.

@unclebobmartin I agree. I have definitely gotten less strict with them and let things slide I wouldn't let slide in human written code. One example is file size, pre ai I liked small focused files now I don't care nearly as much as long as they are single responsibility still.

@Moorsy100 @dhh Yep exactly! It printed a stamp, said "oh half is cut off". Then it printed a ruler "oh 3 of my ruler lines are cut off I need to offset by X pixels" and it just kept printing and looking until it was perfect! If you look at my GitHub there are pics.

@Moorsy100 @dhh It took Claude 4 prints to perfectly program a stamp printer! It printed a diagnostic "ruler" print and figured out it needed to offset the print by a bit.

@Moorsy100 @dhh These printers need to be calibrated and programmed in the language ZPL. Stamp printers, industrial shipping labels, retail, etc. So I point the camera at the printer and say "Claude program this printer for me, use your eyes to ensure the printers are good!"
