𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 (𝗥𝗜𝗦) is pleased to share that the RIS Discussion Paper '𝑅𝑒𝑖𝑚𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐼𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑎'𝑠 𝑄𝑢𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝐸𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑦𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑚' was discussed at a meeting convened by Smt. Nidhi Khare (@inidhikhare), Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs (@jagograhakjago), highlighting the growing relevance of evidence-based policy research in strengthening India's quality ecosystem.

RIS faculty members @aniljauhri, Visiting Fellow, and @om_stutee, Research Assistant, presented the key findings and policy recommendations of the paper in the presence of Smt. Richa Misra, Additional Secretary, DoCA, Shri Sanjay Garg, Director General, Bureau of Indian Standards (@IndianStandards), and senior officials of DoCA and BIS at Krishi Bhavan.

The discussion focused on strengthening India's standards and regulatory ecosystem through improved institutional coordination, technical regulations, market surveillance, regulatory governance, and related policy measures.

Recognising RIS's continued research in this area, the Department entrusted RIS to undertake further analytical work and provide evidence-based policy inputs on select issues.

The discussion reflects the growing role of research-led policy engagement in advancing regulatory coherence, strengthening standards, conformity assessment systems, and enhancing India's competitiveness in domestic and international markets.

Research and Information System for Developing Countries (@RIS_NewDelhi) is pleased to share that its Discussion Paper '𝘙𝘦𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘢’𝘴 ��𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮' authored by Rajeev Kher, Anil Jauhri and Om Stutee continues to receive wider national and international engagement.

Taking this engagement forward, Ms. Om Stutee, Research Assistant, RIS, and Shri Anil Jauhri (@aniljauhri), Visiting Fellow, RIS, co-authors of the paper, presented its key findings to the CII Institute of Quality (@CII_IQ), including Mr. Neil Castelino and Mr. Vishal Saxena.

The presentation highlighted that India has built considerable quality infrastructure, and there is a need to ensure that standards, regulations, conformity assessment, accreditation, surveillance, export quality systems and voluntary schemes operate as a coherent and globally credible ecosystem.

The paper first received international attention through review by Mesopartner, which reflected on its central framing of India’s quality system as a living ecosystem rather than a rigid infrastructure.

Engagement with institutions such as the CII Institute of Quality is important because industry will be central to strengthening compliance readiness, shaping standards, supporting MSMEs, responding to private and sustainability standards, and building internationally trusted quality systems.

This interaction marks an important step in deepening dialogue with industry as India seeks to strengthen industrial competitiveness, export credibility and global market acceptance.
