The left are running a major propaganda drive to claim that for middle and lower earners Britain is undertaxed compared to Europe.
This is claptrap based on faulty interpretation of statistics, as @rcolvile of @CPSThinkTank has made clear in an important new report. In most European countries people are required to pay higher contributions into state pension systems, whereas in Britain people are required to pay higher contributions into private pension systems through compulsory auto-enrolment. The latter is not reflected in tax statistics.
The chart below published by @TomHCalver in the Times, shows that, in fact, Britain is in the top seven highest-taxing countries in Europe, above even France.
As Robert Colville says "there is no ‘tax gap’ between Britain and Europe. We pay roughly the same in taxes on our income, and roughly the same in taxes on what we buy. The gap between us is, as the IFS has said, entirely due to a different approach to pensions, social security contributions and other individual costs. But just because those costs do not show up in the headline statistics, it does not mean that they are not being paid".
This a critical point. The left understands that only by taxing the vast bulk of the population far more can they achieve their social and political objectives. Their demand to raise taxes on the rich is only a step towards that goal. As Andy Summers of far-left group Centax said "taxing the super rich is a prerequisite to raising taxes on other groups."

En toch stond er niemand op en liep weg tijdens zijn toespraak bij de VN, zoals wel gebeurde bij die van Benjamin Netanyahu. Ontneem de VN haar financiering.
I constantly have to explain to people from abroad why British politics is the way it is.
So here’s a TL;DR summary.
> The UK is highly conservative, especially England
> The political class was completely captured by left liberal ideology
> So the mainstream right wing” party kept promising conservative policies.. but then gave us unprecedented waves of immigration, asylum and woke institutional takeover
> They blamed the high immigration on our membership of the EU, so pressure built and they gave us a rigged referendum in which the government literally posted every household a flyer saying “don’t do it, it will be terrible”
> we voted Brexit anyway - because we wanted lower immigration, desperately
> They ramped non-EU, 3rd world immigration up by orders of magnitude to the highest levels in history to punish us and to squash Covid inflation by lowering wages while pumping their own property portfolios
> Eventually, we’d had enough.. but there was no other serious movement on the right yet.. so we punished them with a historically low vote, removing them from power
> This meant the mainstream left wing party won by default. But quickly realised all their ideas had been implemented..
> So now all they do is tinker at the edges and brutally crack down on anyone deemed to be problematic to the race communism revolution / replacement program
So here we are.. patiently waiting for 2029 for our next vote.. as if in an orderly queue.. with a party in power that is the antithesis of what the majority of British people actually want.
Meanwhile the right is so unbelievably frustrated that it has fractured into 3 parties
1) the original conservatives “we’re sorry we will definitely lower immigration this time”
2) Reform : “anyone can be British as long as it’s legal - we just want to grow the economy and stop the illegals”
3) Restore : “millions must go”
I hope you’ve enjoyed my intro to British politics.
In 1997 the Tories bequeathed New Labour:
- 3.5% GDP growth
- 4.5% wage growth
- 4.6% manufacturing output growth
- Energy independence and falling energy prices
- A brand new nuclear power station (1995)
- New reservoirs (1992)
- Construction of Manchester airport's second runway
- Falling unemployment
- London as the world’s leading foreign-exchange centre
- A newly opened Channel Tunnel
- Debt at just 37% of GDP
- On track for a balanced budget
Andy Burnham just said that this was failure. Somehow.
This is what the Home Secretary has committed to this afternoon.
A level of settlement this country has never before seen, and one which the Home Office knows will be economically ruinous.

WOW. Can’t believe I’m about to say this but the Lib Dem’s and Labour in Portsmouths council meeting tonight voted AGAINST asking the government to stop anymore boat arrivals on the shores of our area and voted AGAINST condemning violence.
None of the news reporters could believe what just happened. I don’t understand what just happened
But the fact of the matter is Lib Dem’s and Labour in Portsmouth do not support a strong stance against more boats arriving here. No matter what spin they give you
More updates to follow.
‘Winter is coming’ is a pretty stark warning from the head of the IMF.
We cannot keep borrowing as though debt has no consequences. The Government needs to get a grip on this before someone else does it for them.

@KimleviKim@RachelHale9920@TiceRichard@farrightAlbie No, because the right is divided and will remain fractured with so many egos, Farage being particularly vulnerable to this.
The left is always organised and able to unite for elections, despite the individual factional or idealogical disagreements.
@TribesBritain Not surprised however, 30 years ago I was working for the local water company. Part of my induction covered how little water we can extract from rivers and limited storage options, etc and that population growth could not exceed a certain amount because of this. 🤷
It’s wild that every single Labour MP in the House of Commons was considered too shit to be leader, so they literally manufactured a by-election to get a new guy in by coup, and he’s still *completely* shit.
Also worth remembering that Labour also tore up laws on donation transparency by unions, thus helping hide a major source of funding. Reconciling money declared by MPs vs money declared by unions is a fascinating exercise.
@CommonSenseGB1@EssexPR Unison branches locally have been canvassing hard to counter demonstrate, all week. The signage is made by SUTR, formally the Unite Against Fascism group, mainly funded by the Unions and often seen as a frount for the SWP
