@Micky_boy_69@MichaelCGlasper There’s an old joke in the Black Country: a couple are getting passionate in the back of a car. The woman cries out in ecstasy, “Kiss me where it smells!”. So he drove her to Smethwick.
HELP BRING TED HOME💔
5 years ago, Mike was punched to the ground by 2 men while walking on Cannon Hill Common, #London#SW20. They stole his beloved dog, TED.
Not a day has passed without Mike & his family thinking of Ted, wondering where he is & if he’s safe🙏

@LouiseCulmer1@AnthonyGri10669@WalkerMarcus To some, yes, of course! That’s exactly why you should allow people to explore the whole range and depth of history - you’ll be guaranteed to find something that you enjoy studying, and sometimes in minute detail 👍
@RichardBratby@CptHastings1916 He gets it now; that Ironbridge was the Silicon Valley of the 18th century, and that there’s a direct line from pig iron to his own company (and the very house where we now live). But most 14 year olds really don’t care. They want interesting people and exciting escapades.
@RichardBratby@CptHastings1916 My husband came here on field trip when he was 14 (as did I, I was in the same class). He can’t remember a solitary thing about it. I sucked it up like the history vacuum cleaner that I am, but for someone like my husband (who now runs an engineering company) it meant nothing.
@RichardBratby@CptHastings1916 You make a great point though. History covers all mankind and has something for everyone - military, economic, cultural, sexual, artistic, philosophical, scientific, social. Beard is proposing proscription of one kind for another. Let people choose what they’re interested in.
@CptHastings1916 It’s the dichotomy - “great men” don’t really matter, only the small people. I’m interested in how all people lived, but to think that - as now - the lives of the small people aren’t affected, driven and determined by those in power, is utterly absurd.
@CptHastings1916 The trouble with this approach is that (for instance) how the average smallholder lived in the 1640s tells you absolutely fuck all about the significance of the English Civil Wars, and why how many turnips he grew in 1645 does not explain how a king of this realm was decapitated.
@omnisophos@christiano_84@LeedsGreenParty Well, just keep on guys. Good on ya. Everyone needs a hobby, a way to make friends, meet people, have a creative outlet.
Have you ever thought about getting a job instead?
