If you think about it, fossil fuels are deeply haunted as a concept: The remains of long-extinct species that once dominated the planet, whose burning at first seems to grant power and ease but eventually threatens the extinction of the species exploiting them.
It strikes me that AI is a sort of enclosure: expropriating the creativity of internet users to transform the digital landscape in such a way that those users can no longer earn a living (or even just hits) from that creativity.
@TheLastFarm I have a vague, semi-formed theory of various cultural trends that represent the death drive, and AI/data centers is definitely one of them. Destroying our actual environment to make ugly images of it. Sad.
There is no easier or more important political position to take than to do everything possible to stop this. It will change our society forever, and Democrats are going along with it.
