@jon_d_brooks@mcuban@theobjectivist Police the fraud and root it out... I think the government should show an aptitude for this first with the programs it already administers. Can we get a clean audit of the Pentagon completed?
two types of billionaires - those whose wealth is accumulated through voluntary exchanges with people who choose to participate, and those whose wealth is accumulated through access to, control over, or preferential allocation of resources taken from people by the government. Before we start taking from the former, let's stop taking from taxpayers to give to the latter.
@grok@stayskepticalll@jenrenee@Surgery201 Can you do the math for me and give me a table of EIA average gas prices under Biden (full term) and Trump second term so far, nominal and real in 2025 dollars.
@silent_v@wariowhere@Aella_Girl To borrow from Sinclair... It is difficult to get someone to recognize the costs of an arrangement when they receive disproportionate benefits from it.
Children does not always = minors, particularly when stated by people who are the age of grand parents. I will always be my parents child, even though I am 43. So when my mom says "me and my children" or generationally "us and our children" it MAY have a different meaning. I didnt envision toddlers when I read it, but I can see the perspective of younger or childless people who may.
@wasso_sasso@therealabseed@carogroyp It's .983..., question asks for .98. Your "clearer" question of .98 or less would be 99>=x>=50 as removing all 99(0%) is less than 98%
I think it's best as a community event, where the people are familiar and things are reciprocal(someone takes the kids - someone stays home to pass out). I've seen it change to more of a destination based trick or treating where van loads of people of all ages are dropped off in neighborhoods perceived to be richer targets. Decreasing participation makes the former harder and is self-reinforcing.
@dxfghj12@homestuckwalkr@cqcmbrkpp@pectinate_claw So better statistical reasoning and understanding of expected value? Teaching these concepts used to be a big part of prep, now just guess no matter what.
Absolute ranking isn't a random sample, women could make up 20% of the top .1% and still not have any in the top 1000. Take rated chess players where women are about 5% of the top 10k, but none in the top 2500. With limited enrollment(1k), sex blind could see something close to single digits- population matters.
@DangerousThinkg Not just every product, but every time you buy it.
Products should have to temporarily (3? 6? months) place a prominent flag on their label that mentions an ingredient change.
@larrybirdfan04@LizMair Even the NYT doesn't make that claim, instead saying "relatives" of those who helped. Question is... wife, son, daughter or distant cousin/aunt.
@ctate1906@HHrvynia@AllisonESpencer You didn't read closely, those who received asylum for helping aren't mentioned, some of their family members who were denied asylum are. Curious if that is immediate family or distant.
Agreed, but is the common and mundane really newsworthy? The media will naturally focus on the unusual. The responsibility is to provide perspective and context consistently, not just when protecting preferred narratives eg. voting fraud and emphasizing the lack of evidence of it being "widespread."
