@floydmarinescu I think it's the community who should be in control of the value it has generated (e.g. great schools and services). While a community might decide basic income is the way to go, I don't see it as an optimal choice since we still have so many problems that require labor.
@floydmarinescu I support LVT, but I'm not that sure about UBI. The problem, as I see it, is related to cost of living, not to income.
Another problem I see with your UBI proposal is that you want to use the value that is created by the community, captured through LVT, for individual benefits.
@TaxLandNotMan@floydmarinescu It’s also important to note that an LVT would work as a break against speculation and would put land to better uses, thus increasing overall prosperity, which means people would get a better value for their labor. In theory…
@TaxLandNotMan@floydmarinescu Only the unimproved value of land is taxed, which we Georgists believe does not belong to the property title holder but to the community that protects the land and invests in the area. The rent exists regardless of who owns land so it’s better to collect it for the community.
@mmjukic Eastern Europe maybe, but people born there certainly not. I don’t see why “Eastern Europe” is more important than the people who are from there. Migration towards the West was an escape for them, why would you force them to stay?
Journalist Elena Milashina, beaten in Chechnya, was diagnosed with craniocerebral trauma and multiple fractures and contusions.
The editorial office of Novaya Gazeta, where the journalist works, reports. Milashina was diagnosed with a closed head injury, multiple (up to 14) fractures of the hand and multiple soft tissue bruises.
@floydmarinescu If they offer visas and free plots of land (paid for through LVT) they can turn around Detroit in no time :)
I guess it won't happen very soon...
@marketarianism @floydmarinescu@dylanhs You can argue all justifications that get the buy in of the general population are good justifications. Not everyone cares about economic efficiency.
