As slope in a phoneme identity task is known to predict reading difficulties in monolingual kids. Our findings suggest that tests using slope to predict language deficits might be less valid in bilinguals due to possible transfer of slopes from earlier to later acquired languages

Test-language had a robust effect on VOT boundary. In line with the VOT productions in the local context, phoneme boundaries occurred at earlier VOTs in English than in Mandarin. Bilingual-balance predicted the overall slopes of the identification function for both languages.
