Democrats have offered multiple (5+) bills to fund TSA, FEMA, Coast Guard, CISA, Secret Service & other non-ICE DHS functions separately—while negotiating broader reforms. Republicans blocked them all, insisting on full DHS package.
For full funding, Democrats demand ICE/CBP changes: visible agent IDs, no masks, judicial warrants for some actions, stricter use-of-force policies (post-Minneapolis incidents).
GOP says ICE already has ample prior funding & wants unified bill. House passed full funding; Senate votes failed both ways (51-46 range). Impasse continues since Feb 13.
For the you can’t make this up file: TSA, FEMA and DHS are currently shut down because the GOP refuses to separate ICE from the package and/or provide conditions on ICE (no masks, judicial warrants, etc.). And so next week they are using up limited floor time for (wait for it)…
When Trump does Lawfare there’s a mountain of evidence the defendant is innocent.
When Biden gets accused of lawfare there’s a mountain of evidence the defendant is guilty.
And if it wasn’t immediately obvious the run at Powell was 100% political, you need to detox from the cult.
@citrinowicz The US military told Trump this and more. It didn't register. It can't register. He has no 2nd order thought capability. He is only about juvenile bullying/extortion. Now he's painted himself into a corner with no leverage. He's a deer in the headlights. Think US regime change.
