White, black and golden, all rescues ❤️
The white one is Misha (mine!) abandoned in my lane as a pup with scabies and pus filled eyes
The golden is St Jazz rescued at age 6 from a breeder by me and adopted by my friend
And the black one is Vapu, abandoned on @VetalTekdi many yrs ago, but loved and cared for by many tekdi walkers.

The unsung heroes of #BajajPuneGrandTour ❤️
An army of stray dog feeders and rescuers from all over Pune and PCMC worked with PMC, ably assisted by 2 NGOS, Blue Cross Society and @CCC_Pune, to prevent untoward incidents due to stray dogs crossing the route.
The volunteers accompanied the dog catching vans to make sure strict records were kept, dogs were caught as humanely as possible, and sent only to trusted shelters like Blue Cross Hospital
It was gratifying to see people offering to confine dogs in their premises during the event - tapri owners, security staff of colleges, shopkeepers, the irrigation dept on Karve rd, and big hearted people who allowed us to keep dogs in their basements, terraces and garden. Thanks to these kind souls, only a small number of dogs were sent to the shelter, and only 2 from Deccan. I myself had 5 dogs jailed in my backyard till the cyclists crossed the Deccan roads.😀
Though I still feel that removing stray dogs during public events and VIP visits is an unnecessary trauma to animals who are already living precarious lives on the streets, our volunteer-PMC-NGO collaboration model shows that a humane, well coordinated effort is possible that keeps animals and humans safe at public events
It's not about the dog. It's about privileged brats in swanky cars acting as though they own the roads. Apparently he has been seen speeding in his blue Lamborghini all over Pune.
It's also about the mindset that thinks wealth can shield you from consequences of public cruelty.
The stray dog problem in India - are there any long term solutions?
This 🧵 is about my work on this issue over the last 10 years along with my Deccan Animal Welfare Group (DAWG). How it started and what we have achieved.

In our Deccan area, more than 95% of stray dogs have been sterilized. We haven't seen a new litter in 2 years
Dog human conflicts too have reduced significantly

URGENT!
PMC #Pune dog squad is picking up sterilized dogs in University campus ahead of some #G20India gala dinner.
What's the point of putting these poor dogs through unnecessary torture and risk of relocation?!
Ridiculous policy of whitewashing city shd stop!
Press coverage of the #YellowRibbon Campaign to save #VetalTekdi
Tie a yellow ribbon to trees near you as a symbol of your support for the tekdi and the urban forest on it - for your children's sake. The most precious legacy you can leave for them is green spaces and fresh air
This. Connect the dots, #Pune and rethink all projects. Old mindset of "development" must be changed align with climate change

What new horror is this? Zoos are outdated concepts and should have been banned long back.
Giraffes and zebras belong to their native habitats in Africa - not in India, and especially not in captivity
Why is Pune PMC wasting public money on this idiotic initiative? @SidShirole
What nonsense is this? What about children and elderly with asthma? What about all the traumatized street animals?
Children should be taught empathy, how to celebrate Diwali without causing distress to others, not this rubbish. We are living in 2021 not in the 1960s
