@atlanticesque@glardre There is nice admin stuff at the county level that I didn't think about but the legislative functions of local government are really out of whack in PA imo. 2500+ municipalties.
@atlanticesque@glardre Counties are weak in PA. Collaboration, it's voluntary or forced .5-1 century ago(Philly City/County consolidation). Land use is a city/town power and schools are wholly separate governments. 3 property tax levies: municipal, school, and county. Counties do assessments.
@Kriezek@moultano You generally have options to have local referenda to raise taxes to buy property. Either put up the money or let people have property rights.
@mindyisser@AJentleson That coalition passed Obamacare. For as odious Manchin is, he voted for Dem appointees. The harder question then candidate selection is what will it take to change voters' minds? Dems can't meaningfully win with the way the electorate is rn.
@moseskagan@StatisticUrban Genuinely though, making it "illegal" to be a NIMBY in real cities(preemption) and letting suburbs have the option to voluntarily price out the poor through funding withholding probably fixes most of our housing issues.
@maxdubler Council/aldermanic prerogative is named in Philly/Chicago but it seems like most local governments recreate it? I think at-large having more voting power over district council people generally helps but local election voters are voting for this.
@_NotA_Bot_ I stg counties could do this if they wanted. LVT in PA is just splitting land and built property rates and I don't think counties have millage limits. Those limits are what keep municipalities from doing it.
@CaralhoPhilly@DPearsonPHL@EamonTis Straight up, I think he threw away lucrative book tours and possible national recognition. "Bringing sanity an bipartisanship to the Republican Party". There would be a lot of people that would eat that shit up especially since he wasn't party backed when he ran.
@jongeeting@RepShusterman It's maddening that Reading Rail restoration would have multiple stops through Pennycuick's district and is supported by the Republican County Commissioner DiBello who also lives in her district. I really don't know how the SEPA Rs are ok with taking from capital funds.
