PhD student interested in protein evolution and engineering, recently dipping into sequencing and data driven approaches. Also, volleyball and photography.
We can combine @nanopore sequencing and directed evolution to study epistasis at an unprecedented scale. Understanding these non-additive mutational effects will hopefully improve predictions for protein engineering in the future.

Absolutely thrilled to share our VASA-seq pre-print on #biorxiv today: Droplet-based single-cell total RNA-seq reveals differential non-coding expression and splicing patterns during mouse development 🧵

Miriam Klaus, @pjz26, @T_S_Kaminski and collaborators from @Johnson_Matthey devise an ultrahigh‐throughput assay for alcohol dehydrogenases in microfluidic droplets with 100 nM sensitivity https://t.co/dJDbnAr9Ck
Very happy to see our Nanopore Freshwater Microbiome Surveillance benchmark out @eLife!
… an exceptional collaboration with inspiring life scientists, tech-enthusiasts and friends in DNA city. A little tale from “behind the scenes” [1/15]
This figure showing cumulative incidence from the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine VRBPAC Briefing Document is so cool!
The curves for #COVID19 cases in the placebo group (🔴) and the vaccine group (🔵) diverge ~2 weeks after vaccination. This is a clear sign the vaccine works!
Growth amplification in ultrahigh-throughput microdroplet screening increases sensitivity of clonal enzyme assays and minimizes phenotypic variation - now published in Lab on a Chip https://t.co/yhjemNqqN7
This is my first dive into sequencing and sequencing data analysis. I hope to do more of this stuff soon :)
The work came of an idea of @LeDillingeur and was possible thanks to a fruitful @MSCActions @ESCat_H2020 collaboration of @hollfelderlab and @Johnson_Matthey

Steffi Neun, @pjz26 and Tomasz Kaminski from our lab tell you everything you ever wanted too know about microfluidic droplet screening for enzyme discovery and evolution:

Climate change is a public health issue.
Climate change is an environmental issue.
Climate change is an economic issue.
Climate change is a social issue.
Our leaders have actively ignored and worked against climate action to fuel their greed. But they also fueled these fires.
Uuuiggghhhh....all data centers in the world combined are responsible for about 0.3% of carbon emissions and that is fixed by switching to renewable energy generation, not by making people feel guilty. There are many things to be worried about but this is not one.
Just came back from a great course on machine learning at the IWR in Heidelberg with awesome lectures. Excited to test my new knowledge on data sets from the lab!

Some of our @ESCat_H2020 ESRs spent their Saturday explaining enzyme catalysis to over 500 visitors to Science Day at @CamBiochem. The testimonials from visitors were glowing:
'The structure of protein is so interesting.'
We agree!
@EU_H2020
This morning, ESR Paul Zurek gave a great seminar about deep mutational scanning, plus taught us something important about acknowledging everyone (and every*thing*) that helped in his work...
