#ONGC strengthens India’s deepwater exploration campaign, by placing the NOA for hiring of a second ultra-deepwater drillship DDKG2, which will be mobilised in the next 3-4 months.

The first rig is already deployed in the Mahanadi Basin and is drilling a deep water well. The development marks another important step in accelerating deepwater and ultra-deepwater exploration, unlocking India’s offshore hydrocarbon potential and reinforcing national energy security.

The mission to harness the vast energy potential beneath India’s seas is being pursued under the Government of India’s #SamudraManthan National Offshore Exploration Scheme.

India is the place to be in for oil & gas exploration and production.
With pathbreaking reforms introduced under the leadership of PM @narendramodi Ji, 10% of our sedimentary basin area is under exploration which will increase to 16% by 2025 after the award of blocks under the forthcoming OALP Rounds.We intend to increase India's exploration acreage to 1 million sqkm by 2030.

Some of the notable reforms include Improving the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ in the Indian E&P sector. We simplified 37 processes requiring approvals into 18 processes

The Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill introduced in 2024, aimed to ensure policy stability for oil and gas producers, allow international arbitration, and extend lease periods.

Reducing No Go areas in EEZ (exclusive economic zone) by almost 99%.

Shifting from the earlier Production Sharing Contracts to the Revenue Sharing Contracts policy.

Formation of a Joint Working Group comprising representatives from private E&P operators, National Oil Companies, MoPNG, and DGH to address industry concerns.

Ensuring data availability of Indian Sedimentary Basins to investors, such as National Seismic Programme in Onshore areas, EEZ Survey in Offshore areas, opening of Andaman Basin, upgradation of NDR, etc.

Opening of data Centre within the campus of University of Houston for ease of data viewing by foreign companies.

Setting up a dispute resolution mechanism to resolve various contractual matters.

Conducting multi-Client Geo-Scientific Surveys and ensured coverage of The Un-Appraised Sedimentary Areas By 2D Seismic Survey. (We are targeting appraisal of 100% Sedimentary Basinal area by 2026-27.)

The results of the reforms can already be seen in the historic OALP bidding round IX which included an area of about 1,36,596 Sq Km offered for 28 blocks in 8 sedimentary basins, which is the largest area offered so far in a single bid round under OALP regime. Out of total 28 blocks on offer for which 60 bids were received, 13 blocks with an area of 51,405 Sq Km (38%) fall in the earlier ‘No-Go’ area.
