I don't know the exact reasoning behind the increase in STT. Having said that, if the goal was to reduce speculative activity in F&O, then I'm not sure this will do anything.
95% of trading is already in options, and this STT increase will only push that share higher. Why? Because the impact falls mostly on futures, while options are far more speculative than futures.
If the govt wants to reduce speculation, then establishing product suitability (who can trade) criteria is the way to go. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but this will remove a lot of uncertainty among brokers and traders. It's a much better approach than a death by a thousand STT hikes 😬
The other problem with the uncertainty from steady STT hikes is that, at some point, you'll start seeing a material impact on trading volumes because transaction costs make trading unviable. You're already kinda seeing that with futures.

Air pollution is NOT a Delhi issue
Kejriwal couldn’t solve it, neither can Rekha Gupta because area wise, Delhi is less than 2% of North India.
- Stubble burning is happening in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh
- Coal power plants are operating, violating international standards in all these states
- Industries in all these states, all around Delhi are causing air pollution because Central Govt failed to enforce rules.
- Construction sites are violating norms everywhere.
- Vehicular pollution is coming from cars and old trucks which don’t follow the latest standards.
The only solution is to implement solutions at a central level. The prime minister and the environment minister need to meet with all CMs of these states and take action on all these points.
But what are they doing? Nothing.
They are absolutely silent.
The anger of the people should be directed at Narendra Modi, he is the biggest culprit here.
Effect of Chandragrahan in the last 2 days:
🇯🇵 Japan PM gone
🇫🇷 France PM gone
🇳🇵 Nepal PM gone
🇹🇭 Thailand PM gone
Now all eyes on Surya Grahan… a big “orange-tinted” leader might be next.

AAP’s defeat in Delhi is no cause for celebration.
Yes, it deserved to lose. Yes, it lost its moral high ground long ago. Yes, ‘Delhi Model’ was no model. Its record during the riots was shameful.
Yet, for all its flaws, AAP assured the poor, migrants, and Dalits that their numbers mattered. Its defeat signals their invisibilization. BJP’s victory takes it a step closer to total political dominance. The failure of AAP experiment may shut the door on alternative politics for years to come.
That is why I worry. And so should you.

Some public service before #Budget2025
What is the difference between exemptions, deductions and rebates? Do not confuse between the three.
An exemption is income that is exempt from taxation, like agri income or gratuity at the time of retirement
A deduction is an investment made or money spent on a desirable place (like PPF or PF and medical insurance premium) and that much money is reduced from your taxable income, therefore reducing your tax paid
A rebate is a direct reduction in the tax liability. Instead of reducing the income, it reduces the tax you have to pay after the tax has been calculated on your taxable income
Deduction reduces the taxable income.
Exemption means the income is not included in taxable income at all.
Rebate directly reduces the tax liability after tax calculation.
