@glennbeck Getting the diagnosis to sound reasonable and then selling a bullshit solution is classic. Astrology, snake-oil, communism, religious cults, all operate like this.
@Briankeating Crazy goal-post shifting. Next will be “AI enabled a good life of abundance and self-actualization for everyone, but AI does not enjoy abundance and self-actualization.”
@iowahawkblog If I have an urge to control how other people live, but I’m an unelectable dweeb, is there any other place for me besides “urban planning?”
@walterkirn We heard so much of this in the 70’s and 80’s with Japan, Inc. Now it’s the wise and patient Chinese. But freedom and open competition beat wise 50-year plans every time. China will not rule the world.
@walterkirn@AlchemyAmerican The post reads like premium academic crankery - definitely worth a quick look. He touches on many evergreen elements: pan-consciousness, it from bit, fixing Einstein, Marvin Minsky …. Minsky himself was a magnet for receiving crank manuscripts like this.
@NicoWolf16@wtgowers@RichardSSutton You are repeating yourself. Grothendieck is an example of a one of kind level of mathematical creativity. AI will pass that, but it doesn’t need to in order to be creative and intelligent in mathematics. Doing things that have stymied mathematicians is enough.
@davidclowery It's a glorious time to be alive - so many grad-school hypotheticals from the 80's and 90's are being tested. I didn't think I'd live to see it. LFG!
@NicoWolf16@wtgowers@RichardSSutton You’re setting the bar for creative intelligence at a once in a century genius level. Therefore there is essentially zero creative intelligence in the human population.
