Here's one idea for you to judge how bad it is: given the HTML page with one div, center it both vertically and horizontally by whatever means you think is reasonable. The acceptance criteria: we'll run ten browsers in ten resolutions, and assess the position.
good or not?
You don't need to punish your candidates with whiteboard interview when you know what to ask them.

@solyarisoftware@gcampax Totally, interviewing is hard from both sides. Thus the question to ask in an interview should not be "can you survive this high-stress situation" but rather "can I work with you and you with me?" - leave the "can do the work" to the work itself or as close to it as possible.
@solyarisoftware@gcampax For me, a candidate in an interview is in survival mode, not showing the real mindset/culture - they're being judged thus they will do their best to "like" thus you will not get a good sample. The mental process of "survival instinct" is not a good predictor of "can do the job".
@solyarisoftware@gcampax 1. It is the starting point of the conversation.
2. Agree, it's the wrong metric yet so many people do it. Mindset/culture is a different kind of interview, but that still doesn't tell if the candidate can do the work.
@solyarisoftware@gcampax You can't _see_ the mental process of an introvert in a staged performance of solving a fake problem on a whiteboard. You can only see a performance.
@kf I never needed more than 1 recruiter to do the human touch work for me, and I always asked them to focus on keeping in touch and giving feedback and information early and frequently, to be a friendly human.
Another world is possible in hiring.
@kf Candidates with an "odd" resume who would not have passed a recruiter (or myself with my unconscious biases) had fantastic answers and passed on to an interview. Some of them eventually got an offer.
@NorbertHartl@pragdave I've seen load of 4000 in a host that was serving git repos which where accessed through NFS (long story) yet the host being responsive because all those processes were simply looping on iowait
#techhiring is hard, and at bigger scales is even worse.
Now with the rise of #remotework, you might be processing up to 10x applications for #developer#jobs. Are you ready? Probably not.
