In a press statement, @UN Security Council members emphasized the vital role of @UNRWA for Palestinian refugees. They strongly warned against any attempts to dismantle or diminish its operations and mandate, and expressed concern over legislation adopted by the Israeli Knesset.

The vote by the Israeli Parliament against @UNRWA is unprecedented. It opposes the @UN Charter and violates the State of Israel’s obligations under international law.

Failing to push back against these bills will weaken our common multilateral mechanism.

This should be a concern to all.

I echo the @UN SG @antonioguterres: @UNRWA is a vital lifeline in these desperate times.

Israel's two new laws, if implemented, could have devastating consequences for millions of Palestinian refugees.

The principles of the UN Charter and int'l humanitarian law must prevail.

If implemented, the laws adopted today by the Knesset of Israel would likely prevent @UNRWA from continuing its essential work in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, with devastating consequences for Palestine refugees.

I call on Israel to act consistently with its obligations under the Charter of the @UN & international law. National legislation cannot alter those obligations.

I am bringing this matter to the attention of the UN General Assembly, and will keep the Assembly closely informed as the situation develops.

There is no alternative to UNRWA.

In conflict, civilians always pay the highest price.

War is not the answer.

We need peace.

The people of Myanmar need peace.

But violence is growing and 7 years after the forced mass displacement of the Rohingya, durable solutions seem a distant reality.

We need to go on working with @ASEAN through our Special Envoys to promote an inclusive Myanmar-led process that brings an end to the suffering of all the people of Myanmar.

The fighting must stop now.
