Men took horses onto a public beach in Surrey and rode them through the water while swinging large swords. Surrey Parks, Recreation and Cultural Facilities Regulation Bylaw 13480 section 59 forbids any person who owns or has custody of a horse from allowing that horse onto any beach inside a park unless signs expressly permit it. No such posting exists for ordinary public beaches in the city. Section 74 of the same bylaw also forbids holding a performance, gathering or similar event in a park without a permit from the General Manager. Doing it anyway is an offence under section 82. On summary conviction the bylaw itself sets the range at a minimum of $200 and a maximum of $50,000 plus the costs of the prosecution, and each day the violation continues is a separate offence.

The swords engage the Criminal Code. Section 88 makes it an offence to carry or possess a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace. A sword is a weapon under the Code’s definition because it is designed to cause injury. Riding horses in shallow water on a public beach while waving those blades is the conduct the section covers. The offence is hybrid. If the Crown proceeds by summary conviction the maximum is 2 years less a day in jail and a $5,000 fine. If the Crown proceeds by indictment the maximum is 10 years in prison. A conviction also opens the door to a weapons prohibition order.

That is the law as written. The beach rule is not optional. The permit rule is not optional. Section 88 is not optional. When those provisions are applied as they stand, the people who brought the horses and the blades onto the beach face the fines, the possible jail time, and the weapons ban the statutes already attach to the conduct.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Here in Hamilton, Ontario, you are not free to have your own beliefs, thoughts or opinions. The fundamental human rights mentioned in the Constitution are meaningless if the local government decides that your opinions are WrongThink.

The police in Hamilton, Ontario don't waste their time hunting down criminals and locking up violent lawbreakers.

Instead, they focus on important, ideologically virtuous things like trying to shut down lawful gatherings and legitimate political discourse by enlisting the population as informants, and intimidating any venue which still believes in free speech.

Welcome to Canada. Welcome to Ontario. Welcome to Hamilton. Welcome to the monster that more than 10 years of Liberal government has created from what was once a great nation.

One dark night in Chicago, a fire started inside the local chemical plant. In the blink of an eye, it exploded into massive flames. The alarm went out to all the fire departments for miles around. When the firefighters appeared on the scene, the chemical company president rushed to the fireman in charge and said, "All our secret formulas are in the vault in the center of the plant. They must be saved. I will give $50,000 to the fire department that brings them out intact."
But the roaring flames held the firefighters off. Soon more fire departments had to be called in as the situation became desperate. As the firemen arrived, the president shouted out that the offer was now $100,000 to the fire station who could bring out the company's secret files. But still, the firefighters could not get through.
From the distance, a lone siren was heard as another fire truck came into sight. It was the nearby rural township volunteer fire brigade, composed mainly of old men over 65. To everyone's amazement, that little run-down fire engine roared right past all the newer sleek engines that were parked outside the plant. Without even slowing down it drove straight into the middle of the inferno.
Outside, the other firemen watched as the old timers jumped off right in the middle of the fire and fought it back on all sides. It was a performance and effort never seen before. Within a short time, the old timers had extinguished the fire and had saved the secret formulas. The grateful chemical company president announced that for such a superhuman feat he was upping the reward to $200,000 and walked over to personally thank each of the brave firefighters.
The local TV station caught the thank you on film and asked the chief, "What are you going to do with all that money?"
"Well," said the 70-year-old fire chief, "the first thing we're gonna do is
fix the brakes on that damn fire truck.”

Dear America,

To President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and the Americans sitting across the negotiating table from our government:

I'm writing this from Canada with a request I never thought I would make of another country.

Please help us.

Not our government. Us. The Canadian people. Please help us understand what is happening to our own country.

Our relationship with the United States is deteriorating. Our economy is hurting. Canadian and American families are worried about jobs, businesses, mortgages and the country we're going to hand our children. Yet through one of the most consequential trade disputes of our lifetime, ordinary Canadians are being left in the dark about what is actually happening.

We hear statements and vague explanations from our government. What we don't get to see or hear is what actually happened at the table.

Increasingly, Canadians are learning more about negotiations involving our own country by watching non-subsidized taxpayer funded American news and American officials.

Think about how extraordinary that is. Our media isn't working for us. Canadians are looking across the border to understand what our own government is doing. So today, I'm asking you to look back across that border at us.

Please don't leave Canadians in the dark. You have the perfect opportunity to shine the light on the truth and help Canadians to see it.

If you made Canada an offer, show us. If our government rejected something, show us. If Canada made demands that prevented an agreement, show us those too. Because we simply cannot trust what our own government and media is telling us.

Give us the timeline. Give us the documents. Give us whatever can legally be made public.

Then please do something unmistakably American...

Put it in front of the people.

Buy the television ads. Buy the newspaper ads. Buy the digital ads. Build a website containing the documents and put the address everywhere. Run a commercial during the hockey game if that's what it takes.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford bought advertising in your country because he wanted Americans to hear Ontario's message directly.

Please return the favour. Buy the ads in our country. Television, radio, social media...all of it.

Do it for Canadians who deserve to know what is being done in their name.

Americans understand something deeply that shouldn't stop mattering when you reach the 49th parallel: a government should answer to its people.

And people cannot hold their government accountable when they aren't given the information necessary to do it.

That is where we need your help.

For generations, Canadians and Americans have been neighbours in a way that goes far beyond politics. Our families live on both sides of that border. We trade together. We build things together. We defend this continent together.

Our governments can fight.
Our people don't have to become enemies.

So I'm asking you sincerely, and with more humility than Canadians are generally comfortable showing:

Please help your neighbours.

We aren't asking you to interfere in our politics. We aren't asking for money or special treatment.

We're asking you to turn on the light.

Give ordinary Canadians access to the information you already have. Speak directly to us. Trust us with the facts.

There was a time when Canada would never have needed another country to help its citizens understand what their own government was doing.

It pains me to admit that today, some of us believe we do.

And of all the countries in the world, there is only one I would think to ask.

America.

Our neighbour. Our friend. The country that has stood beside us through wars, disasters, terrorism, recessions and generations of shared history.

We're standing on the other side of that border now asking you for something remarkably small that could make an enormous difference.

Please show Canadians what happened.

• Put the documents in our hands.

• Buy the ads.

• Tell us what our own government will not.

Because right now, your Canadian neighbours need some help. And we're asking America not to look away.

Iceland has a breed of sheep that nobody breeds for meat, because for a thousand years it has been bred for one quality only. Judgement.

They are called forystufe. Leader sheep. Taller, longer in the leg, narrower through the body, oddly marked, and always at the front, with their heads up while the rest of the flock has its head down. When they move, the flock moves. Nobody votes.

A proven leader sold for two or three times the price of a good sheep. Bloodlines became famous. When a great one died, the farm kept the head.

And the claim attached to them sounds like folklore until you read the records. They know the weather is coming, sometimes a full day out. If the leader will not leave the barn on a morning that looks perfectly fine, you do not move the flock. Farmers arranged their winters around the opinion of a sheep, and wrote it down as fact.

Autumn round-up, 1884. A large flock is being driven across the interior when a blizzard comes down on open sand and rock. Every landmark goes. You cannot pitch a tent on that ground and turning back is worse than going on.

At the front is a ram called Surtur, from Svinavatn, already known as a superior leader. The fjallkongur, the man running the round-up, makes a decision. He hands the whole thing to the sheep and tells his men to stay together.

A third of the way across, Surtur stops, turns, and walks back down through the flock to find the men. His face is packed solid with ice and he cannot see. They clear it. He returns to the front and walks back into the weather.

He comes back for the same service several more times that night. Nobody has to fetch him.

Then he stops and will not move at all. The men feel about and find grass under their boots, which tells them they are off the desert and nothing else whatsoever.

At dawn the storm eases and they work out where they are.

They are standing on the exact spot the round-up stops every year after crossing the sands. Surtur had halted there since he was a lamb. Afterwards the fjallkongur told his owner that without the ram, men would have died out there as well as sheep.

There are fewer than 1,500 leader sheep left, all of them descended from one district in the north east. Iceland recognised them as a breed of their own in 2017. There is a small museum out there, run by a local teacher, with the heads of the great ones on the wall and a coffee blend named after the animals. The saying on the wall is that if you wear clothes made from their wool, you will always find your way home.

Genetic work has since confirmed they really are distinct from every other Icelandic sheep. The folklore was right. Folklore usually is, out where the weather kills people.

No laboratory. No pedigree software. No genome. Just farmer after farmer, century after century, watching which animal was at the front when the light went, and breeding from that one.

A thousand years of selecting a sheep for its judgement, and at the end of it they built it a museum.

And here we are, in the country that calls them stupid.

I recently wrote an article explaining why Islam is not merely a religion, and I am absolutely astounded by the ignorance of so many of you in my comments.

The number of people replying, “Oh, sort of like Christianity,” is embarrassing.

Apparently, I need to put on my teacher pants and explain this as if I were standing in front of a third-grade classroom, because some of you are either being deliberately dishonest or genuinely do not understand the histories or doctrines you are attempting to compare.

Jesus did not establish a government. He did not command an army. He did not impose a special tax on unbelievers. He did not create a civil and criminal code governing inheritance, courtroom testimony, marriage, divorce, punishment, taxation, and warfare. He did not conquer territory or rule a state.

Muhammad did.

That is not an insult. It is history.

Christianity is centered on following Christ. The New Testament does not provide Christians with a comprehensive legal system to be imposed upon an entire country. Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world.”

Islam is a religion, but it is not merely a religion. It is also a political, legal, and social system. Muhammad was not only a religious teacher. He was a political ruler, military commander, and lawgiver. Sharia governs far more than prayer and personal morality. It addresses marriage, divorce, inheritance, testimony, criminal punishment, taxation, warfare, and political authority.

The Quran assigns different inheritance shares to sons and daughters in specified circumstances. It places husbands in authority over wives. Islamic texts prescribe corporal punishments. Traditional Islamic sources report that Muhammad consummated his marriage to Aisha when she was nine. Traditional Islamic jurisprudence also prescribed death for apostasy under certain conditions.

Those are not inventions created by people who “hate Muslims.” They come from Islam’s own texts and legal tradition.

And before several of you predictably shout, “What about the Inquisition?” let us put that history back into its actual setting.

Muslim armies invaded the Iberian Peninsula in 711 and rapidly conquered most of the territory. Christian kingdoms then spent centuries reclaiming it. The Spanish Inquisition was established in 1478, near the end of that long struggle and within a society profoundly shaped by conquest, reconquest, forced conversion, and religious conflict.

Was it simply a direct response to the original Muslim invasion? No. History is more complicated than that. Its immediate purpose was to investigate suspected heresy, initially among baptized Jewish converts and later among Muslim converts as well. It also became an instrument of royal power and religious control.

That does not excuse it.

It places it in history.

I am not proud of the Inquisition. No Christian should be. But notice the difference: Christians can look back at it, condemn it, and recognize it as a grave abuse of religious and political authority. We do not have Christian governments in 2026 convening inquisitorial tribunals, torturing converts, or executing people for leaving Christianity.

Meanwhile, governments and movements invoking Islamic law still imprison people for blasphemy, punish apostasy, publicly flog men and women, restrict the lives of women, and impose religious law through the power of the state. These are not stories preserved behind museum glass. They are happening now.

So if you want to compare apples to apples, compare the present to the present.

Do not drag a Christian tribunal created in 1478 into the conversation while pretending not to notice governments enforcing corporal punishment in the name of Sharia in 2026. Do not reach back five centuries to condemn Christianity while asking everyone to ignore what is being done today under Islamic law.
