Children with intellectual and developmental disabilities suffer more often from pain than their typically developing peers.

Their pain can be difficult to manage, and assessment is often complicated by their limited communication skills, multiple complex pain problems and the presence of maladaptive behaviours.

It is that time of the year where we do all that we can to leave a smile on their faces. We cannot take away their pains, but you can be there, physically and emotionally, to guide them, to hold their hand, to lift them up when they fall.

Azeez and Rofia are Chronic Kidney Disease stage 5 patients. They need all of us to get the right treatments to control these pains.

The sad part is that treatments have been stopped for more than 3 weeks, and this is causing more complications and damages.

Abd Azeez has a hard time talking about his pain. He is depressed and tired of days without dialysis.

There is no cure for kidney failure, but with treatment it is possible to live a long, fulfilling life.

Rofiat Lawal and Azeez Olatunde needs all of us right now, their kidneys do not work as well as they should to filter waste and extra fluid out of their blood.

They are currently at the CKD [step down] - Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital and during our visit, treatment has been halted.

While, the pains of hardship might vary from person to person, and different people are tested in different ways, everyone can agree with this - going through a painful time is not easy. It is mentally and emotionally draining to go through painful times and live through them.
