@nascom1 I understand DSS-34 will have a keyhole in tomorrow's contact with @NASAWebb. Since we don't have any HGA pointing issues (that I'm aware of!) I assume this—unlike with SOHO—is caused by some limitation on the ground. Is it a DSS-34 gimbal limitation? Need for a cable unwrap?
Webb’s #NIRSpec microshutter array observed 48 individual galaxies at the same time – a new technology used for the first time in space. Data revealed light from one galaxy travelled for 13.1 billion years before Webb’s mirrors captured it 👇
"Personally, I went and had an ugly cry. Because it works."
The razor-sharp resolution of the @NASAWebb imagery was enough to bring astrophysicist Jane Rigby to tears. How are you reacting to this telescope's ability to #UnfoldTheUniverse?
#PI_Daily Today (June 1) at 21:01 UTC / 5:01pm EDT, we confirmed @NewHorizons2015 had a nominal entry into hibernation. The spacecraft will now hibernate while taking date 24x7 till 1 March! Go New Horizons! #Space#Science#NASA
Sometimes I’ll say “oh sorry, my computer is having problems” and a friend will suggest calling the help desk and I’ll have to clarify “oh no I mean the flight computer on the spacecraft.”
Our 2022 LGBTQ+ Scientist of the Year is Dr. @janerrigby, an astrophysicist at the NASA Goddard Flight Center & the Operations Project Scientist for the Webb Space Telescope. Rigby develops new techniques to study galaxy evolution, star-forming galaxies, & active galactic nuclei.
Activities are underway for the final phase of the observatory's commissioning, during which the #Webb team will measure the detailed performance of the science instruments before routine science operations begin in the summer. Details: https://t.co/Tpk1faoNiT 📹: @NASAGoddard
Alignment of the James Webb Space Telescope is now complete!👏 These new engineering images of sharply focused stars in the field of view of each instrument demonstrate that #Webb is fully aligned and in focus. Learn more here: https://t.co/DB80wt9e6Y 📷 : NASA/STScI
"In the first year of science operations, we expect Webb to write entirely new chapters in the history of our origins – the formation of stars and planets." —@pontoppi, #NASAWebb project scientist, Space Telescope Science Institute ➡️ https://t.co/Bs4fPULeW9
@spacejammie Rikyū crater on Mercury, for...
1) the name being submitted by my friend
@RadHardened;
2) Sen no Rikyū being one of the founders of Japanese tea ceremony as many know and practice it over the last >400 years.
And... it's even bowl-shaped! 🍵
