Jared has some great takes. This isn't one of them however. Achilles is an essential role in the Odyssey.

The Odyssey happens in context of the Illiad and the central theme of the Illiad is Achilles' choice, fame and glory, or peace and obscurity. His mother Thetis shows him his two possible futures, a future of peace and prosperity surrounded by his grandchildren, happy, but living in obscurity, or everlasting glory and a short life.

Achilles chooses the later, but when Odysseus, a man who has spent decades desperately to get back to his home, wife and son, meets him in the underworld, Achilles tells him that he would rather be the lowliest laborer on earth than prince of all the dead.

This is a line, that only Achilles can deliver, because only he was given that clear of a choice in the Illiad. It shows that Odysseus' striving to return home to his family is not foolish or in vain. It validates his entire journey.

Leaving out Achilles alltogether would be bad enough, but giving that role to Sinon, a no-name who only shows up in the Aenied, is just baffling. Giving that role to Elliot Page shows I think that the motivation is not faithfulness to the original.
