Honoured to be named a CPAL Rising Star!
Looking forward to interacting with other awardees and conference organisers. Special thanks to @CPALconf for promoting young researchers.
Recruiting PhD/MSc students to join NeuBahar Lab @UAlberta & @AmiiThinks!
We study representation learning, generative models, interpretability, world models, inverse problems & NeuroAI.
Our goal: intelligent systems that learn generalizable, mechanistically interpretable, disentangled & compositional world models.

My research group is recruiting MSc and PhD students at the University of Alberta in Canada.
Research topics include generative modeling, representation learning, interpretability, inverse problems, and neuroAI. If interested, check my website and consider applying.
To put this into perspective: the total amount spent on math research by the NSF since its creation is less than 1% of the market cap of bitcoin, one of the zillions things that wouldn't exist without math research.
In 1985, I asked my brother David (age 15) to be the rotoscope model for my new game, Prince of Persia.
38 years later, I've made him a (present day) cartoon character in my new graphic novel memoir REPLAY.

Presenting at #ICLR2024 with Sam Buchanan @_sdbuchanan and Jere Sulam @Jere_je_je!
We present neural networks that exactly parameterize prox operators and a new loss for learning the prox of an unknown prior!

During my PhD, I've had the license to openly explore many beautiful ideas. The concentration of measure phenomenon is my standout favorite. I owe a lot of happy working hours to Talagrand, Ledoux, Vershynin, Ramon Van Handel, Boucheron, Lugosi, Massart etc.
Michel Talagrand has been awarded the Abel Prize, one of the highest honors in mathematics, for applying tools from high-dimensional geometry to complex probability problems. @jordanacep reports: https://t.co/JonxMN34u6

🌟Congrats to Prof @SoledadVillar5 who received the @NSF CAREER award for her pioneering project: "Symmetries and Classical Physics in Machine Learning for Science and Engineering." https://t.co/AiRivS4GsQ
To candidates: *always* waive your right to read your letters. Not doing so can only hurt you, and annoy your letter writers (who are, in principle, your strongest allies).
