Kudakkoothu is a traditional dance performed by Krishna and is vividly described in classical Tamil literature. The Silappadhikaram lists it among the eleven principal forms of dance. As the name suggests, the performance is executed with a kudam (pot), showcasing remarkable balance, agility, and artistic skill.

According to tradition, Krishna performed Kudakkoothu in the streets of Sonitapura after liberating his grandson Aniruddha, who had been held captive by Banasura.

The Azhwars celebrate this divine dance in several of their pasurams. Andal, in particular, praises Krishna as:

“குடத்தை எடுத்தேறவிட்டு கூத்தாடவல்ல எம் கோவே”

(“O my Lord, who is adept at tossing the pot aloft and dancing with it!”)

The popularity of Kudakkoothu is also reflected in temple art across Tamil Nadu, where numerous sculptures depict Krishna gracefully performing this distinctive dance with a pot.

One thing New Yorkers like me must remember—as per New York caste activists, the entire slate of the @DemSocialists in the state senate and assembly supported the failed caste bill.

They were willing to support a bill that would uniquely single out our community for policing based on a “caste” construct & deny us equal protection.

This 1995 Telugu movie appeared without much expectations, no big star hero, not much hype.

But the movie was not just a success, it was a sensation. Ammoru's story was quite old, the Devi coming to the rescue of her devotees.

It was the narration that made the difference. Just imagine a 90s Telugu movie coming up with this kinda VFX, it just stunned audiences.

The climax where the Ammoru kills the evil Tantrik sheer goosebumps. Theaters became mini temples, ladies got a free saree and sindoor.

Ammoru was also a turning point for it's two leading ladies, Soundarya became a leading start. Ramya Krishna till then known mostly for glam roles, showed a new aspect of hers and became the first choice for all those Devi roles.

The movie was the vision of 2 people, producer M.Shyam Prasad Reddy who wanted to make a movie with Hollywood style graphics in Telugu and director Kodi Ramakrishna whose usage of VFX in Ammoru, followed by Anji, Devullu, Devi, Devi Putrudu and Arundhati was top notch and an inspiration for many other directors.
