The Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) and the United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) organized a side event titled "Building Resilient Coastal Infrastructure: Bridging Science, Policy, and Finance for Climate Adaptation" at UNOC-3 in Nice, France.

Dr M Ravichandran, Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of marine spatial planning for coastal resilient infrastructure.

He also outlined the various components of India's Deep Ocean Mission initiatives, showcasing integrated approaches to coastal resilience that align with disaster risk reduction and sustainability targets related to Sustainable Development Goal 14.

Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. @nsitharaman chaired the Roundtable on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, on the sidelines of the World Bank and IMF #AnnualMeetings2024, in Washington DC, today.

The Roundtable saw participation from H.E. Situmbeko Musokotwane, Minister of Finance, Zambia; H.E. Lyondo Lekey Dorji, Minister of Finance, Bhutan; H.E. Valery Ramonjavelo, Minister of Transport & Meteorology, Madagascar; H.E. Victor Hugo Guilherme, Minister of Planning, Angola; H.E. MR. @AbdourazakIBRA3, Minister of Finance, Comoros; H.E. Mr. @ted_lwamba, Minister of Resources, Democratic Republic of Congo; H.E. Ms. Saada Mkuya Salum, Minister Of Finance, Zanzibar and also representing Tanzania); H.E. Welcoming all the participants, FM Smt. @nsitharaman said that Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi created the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure #CDRI to transform our infrastructure systems for resilience against today's natural disasters and adapt to #ClimateChange.

FM Smt. @nsitharaman stressed on the danger of the development gains being undercut by increasing climate-induced risks to #infrastructure and the critical services it supports.

FM Smt. @nsitharaman said that over the years, India has ensured resilient #EconomicGrowth by not only investing in hard infrastructure, but also in building institutional capacity through creating National-and State-level Disaster Management Agencies. She said that during Cyclone Amphan in 2020, India evacuated over 2.4 million people in a coordinated manner, minimising loss of life.

Reassuring India's commitment in sharing best practices during this resilience-building journey, the Union Finance Minister extended assistance to Global South towards shared challenges and said that under #G20India Presidency a Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group was created to increase commitment to disaster and climate-resilient infrastructure and to prioritize stronger national financial frameworks for disaster risk reduction.

FM Smt. @nsitharaman said that India is looking forward to partnering with Africa and other developing countries to strengthen their #resilience of #infrastructure.
