There is an assumption that essential and inseparable properties, structures, features or aspects of a substance entails metaphysical gradation. A substance without properties, structures, features or aspects is construed as metaphysically superior by some metaphysicians.

If this distinction is granted then theologians (Feinberg, Frame, Ware) and philosophers (Plantinga, Craig, Hasker) can affirm God takes up contingent attributes without any essential or fundamental change in God. I discuss this somewhat in this paper:

Tipton assumes God taking on contingent, non-essential, attributes or properties entails an essential change to God. But such an assumption seems to beg the question. It denies the very distinction between essential and non-essential/contingent attributes.

Trinitarianism may be analyzed historically or philosophically. You are concerned with the former while I the latter.

The label isn’t as important as the theory itself.

Bill Craig prioritizes the Trinity and divine aseity. He thinks eternal generation threatens both the Trinity and aseity. At least Craig has evaluated the issues with eternal generation related to divine aseity (See his 2019 paper in TheoLogica). I doubt most have.

Craig does not extrapolate in the video further his mereological proposal of God the Trinity as a tripartite being composed of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

@QuestionTrinity Craig would say the whole divine substance is the three divine persons as parts. The Father cannot be independent cuz he is interdependent with the Son & Spirit to make up the Trinity. Hasker has a different account.
