Today is a historic day- the united Opposition resoundingly defeated the illegal & ill-thought out Constitutional Amendment Bill brought in the guise of a Women’s Reservation Bill.
In intensive talks at highest level in 47 years, Iran engaged with U.S in good faith to end war.
But when just inches away from "Islamabad MoU", we encountered maximalism, shifting goalposts, and blockade.
Zero lessons earned
Good will begets good will.
Enmity begets enmity.
The Trump administration seems to have miscalculated in Islamabad, assuming that Iran was weakened and ready to cave, when in fact it feels it has the upper hand. It's difficult to reach an agreement when both sides feel they have the advantage and are prone to overreach.
And now Trump seems inclined to miscalculate again, assuming that blockading the Strait will force Iran to capitulate. That seems very unlikely. It's true that a blockade will put economic pressure on Tehran and on China, which in turn can put pressure on Iran. But with zero oil passing through the Strait, rising oil prices are likely to put even more pressure on Trump. Iran, as a dictatorship, simply has more strategic patience, and in addition there are many in Tehran who believe that Iran has to do more to reestablish deterrence and make the US pay a price.
If the US blocks Iranian oil exports, expect Iran in turn to keep striking Fujairah, to keep the UAE from by passing the Strait by pipeline, and also to target Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline carrying oil to the Red Sea. And the Houthis are likely to counter-escalate by blocking oil exports through the Bab al-Mandab Strait as well. And that's not even counting possible strikes on oil refineries in the region.
In short, I think Trump's escalation plans are once again characterized by magical thinking, false assumptions of Iranian weakness and a failure to think ahead about how Iran may respond to his moves. For Trump to escalate at this point will be a sign not of strength but of desperation, and counter to American and world interests.
A 75-year-old protester from Munich, Ernst Hormann, threw red paint at the German Chancellery in Berlin on April 7 to protest against Germany’s complicity in aiding the US-Israeli war on Iran. Hormann criticised the government for allowing US operations from Ramstein Air Base and accused Chancellor Merz of having “blood on his hands”
Pakistan has given a message of peace to the world by stopping the war between Iran and America. Why didn't our Mahavishwaguru get this credit? Because Mahavishwaguru has no role. There is a war going on in the world and our Mahavishwaguru was throwing bombs from his mouth at political opponents in West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu,
The entire world welcomes the two-week ceasefire. We need peace, not war.
But it is deeply disturbing that Pakistan has played an active role in brokering the two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
A nation, that harbours terrorists and has been on the brink of economic collapse is now a key player in global geopolitics - while India has been conspicuously absent from the scene.
To dismiss this as a non-event is foolhardy and an ostrich-like denial. This is NOT nothing.
India, which has for centuries been the moral compass of the world, now finds herself isolated and sidelined. We have ceded the strategic space at the world stage which has been very quickly occupied by a rogue state - Pakistan.
Meanwhile, India openly and foolishly - aligned with Israel and America. We even failed to muster the moral courage to denounce the American President’s call to nuke Iran and wipe out an entire civilisation.
India has been found floundering, directionless and timid in our response. In a defining moment, India chose to stand on the wrong side of history.
India, has paid a price for a compromised Prime Minister who chose to be a coward when the world needed us to be brave and just. India has been let down by a man who is being blackmailed by the US and Israel.
History will not forgive Narendra Modi for allowing Pakistan to play this role on the global stage - at India’s expense.
Vice-President’s convoy with 42 vehicles🙄
Even the king of Dubai is accompanied by just one car but the abundance of vehicles in VP’s convoy suggests we belong to 4th world nation🤬🤬🤬🤬
@trtworld The reporter asked a valid question, and the ambassador's reply was pure BS. What 'stabilising force' is he talking about with genocide in Gaza and the killings in Lebanon ?
Remembering Indian Freedom Fighters, Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar on Shaheed Diwas for their courage, bravery, supreme sacrifice and their love for the nation. Inquilab Zindabad !
Journalist Steve Sweeney says the attack on him was a deliberate, targeted attack by Israel.
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, Israel was responsible for two-thirds of all press killings in both 2025 and 2024. @SweeneySteve
