#WeatherUpdate | Currently, El Niño conditions are present over the equatorial Pacific Ocean and are expected to strengthen further during the Southwest Monsoon season.

The atmosphere has responded to the warming sea surface temperatures, and the coupled ocean–atmosphere system now exhibits characteristics consistent with El Niño conditions.

Forecasts from the Monsoon Mission Coupled Forecast System (MMCFS) indicate a further strengthening of El Niño conditions during the Southwest Monsoon season. At present, neutral Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions prevail over the Indian Ocean.

#Watch | @MEAIndia summons US Chargé d’Affaires Jason Meeks to lodge a protest against attacks on commercial vessels off the coast of Oman.

Yesterday, yet another vessel with 20 Indian crew on board came under attack. The US envoy was called in by Additional Secretary (Americas) in the Ministry of External Affairs.

This is the second time the US mission has been summoned by the MEA. Three Indian seafarers, who were initially reported missing, have been confirmed dead in one of the attacks.

Since 1 April when the boat set sail, of the 147 passengers and crew, 7 people have become ill, among whom 3 have died, 1 is critically ill and 3 are reporting mild symptoms.

Based on the current information, including how hantavirus spreads, WHO assesses the risk to the global population from this event as low.
We are working closely with health authorities from the countries involved and the ship's operators to ensure passengers and crew get the information and support they need.

WHO will continue to monitor the situation and update the risk assessment as more information becomes available.

In view of the West Asia crisis, the central excise duty on petrol and diesel for domestic consumption has been reduced by ₹10 per litre each. This will provide protection to consumers from rise in prices. Hon. PM @narendramodi has always ensured that citizens are protected from vagaries of supply and costs of essential goods.

Further, duties have been imposed on exports of Diesel at ₹21.5 per litre and on ATF at ₹29.5 per litre. This will ensure adequate availability of these products for domestic consumption. The Parliament has been notified about the same.
