I strongly condemn today's Israeli strikes on Beirut. The strikes took place despite the ceasefire & at a time when the US & Iran are expected to reach an agreement that will pave the way to a peaceful resolution of this conflict.
This conflict is having a devastating impact on the world's economy.
I urge all parties to show maximum restraint at this crucial moment & I strongly hope for a successful outcome of the ongoing efforts by the US & Iran.
#WeatherUpdate | Currently, El Niño conditions are present over the equatorial Pacific Ocean and are expected to strengthen further during the Southwest Monsoon season.
The atmosphere has responded to the warming sea surface temperatures, and the coupled ocean–atmosphere system now exhibits characteristics consistent with El Niño conditions.
Forecasts from the Monsoon Mission Coupled Forecast System (MMCFS) indicate a further strengthening of El Niño conditions during the Southwest Monsoon season. At present, neutral Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions prevail over the Indian Ocean.
Forecasts from the Monsoon Mission Coupled Forecast System (MMCFS) indicate that neutral IOD conditions are likely to persist through the Southwest Monsoon season.

#Hantavirus cluster linked to cruise ship travel:
Since 1 April when the boat set sail, of the 147 passengers and crew, 7 people have become ill, among whom 3 have died, 1 is critically ill and 3 are reporting mild symptoms.
Based on the current information, including how hantavirus spreads, WHO assesses the risk to the global population from this event as low.
We are working closely with health authorities from the countries involved and the ship's operators to ensure passengers and crew get the information and support they need.
WHO will continue to monitor the situation and update the risk assessment as more information becomes available.

Accountability shouldn’t depend on who holds power.
When #ECI acts against Mallikarjun Kharge but stays silent on Narendra Modi, it raises serious questions about fairness.
Democracy demands equal rules for all—not selective enforcement. Silence, too, becomes a statement.

.@UNDP is gravely concerned by reports of damage to health facilities in Iran, incl. the Pasteur Institute.
Health infrastructure & personnel must be protected under international humanitarian law.
Disruption risks essential services & access to care for the most vulnerable.
Across #Gaza, the #WestBank, and #Lebanon, millions of people continue to be displaced.
🔹In the Gaza Strip, nearly two-thirds of the population are living in displacement sites.
🔹The scale of population displacement in the occupied West Bank is one of the largest since 1967.
🔹In Lebanon, the ongoing military escalation has fuelled the displacement of over 1,000,000 individuals in under one month.
Fear is deepening among already vulnerable communities.
The root cause of the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz is the U.S.-Israel illegal military operations against Iran. Only by ending the military actions and restoring peace and stability in the Gulf can the international shipping lane be open and safe.
The international community needs to work together for de-escalation to prevent regional turmoil from further hitting the global economy and energy security.
In view of the West Asia crisis, the central excise duty on petrol and diesel for domestic consumption has been reduced by ₹10 per litre each. This will provide protection to consumers from rise in prices. Hon. PM @narendramodi has always ensured that citizens are protected from vagaries of supply and costs of essential goods.
Further, duties have been imposed on exports of Diesel at ₹21.5 per litre and on ATF at ₹29.5 per litre. This will ensure adequate availability of these products for domestic consumption. The Parliament has been notified about the same.
