New preprint! 🧠 Mapping biopsychosocial and neuroimaging risk factors for dementia in MENA immigrants using UK biobank data (N=9,509). We identify key modifiable metabolic and environmental targets, providing a strategy for equitable dementia prevention. https://t.co/v7JCS8IqKe
📢New paper out! “The Genetic Architecture of the Human Corpus Callosum and its Subregions" investigates how genetic variation shapes the size & thickness of the corpus callosum (CC) - the brain’s major bridge between hemispheres. #neuroscience#genetics@NatureComms
Abnormalities in CC are genetically tied to ADHD and bipolar disorder. Smaller CC area shares allelic risk with ADHD, and thinner CC with bipolar disorder. Local effects on 17q21.31 link genu morphology to neuroticism and Parkinson’s via stress- and tau-related pathways.
We’ve mapped the genetic blueprint of the brain’s largest communication bridge using a new AI tool developed here by @njahanshad & co. Our publicly available tool reveals how genes shape this vital structure & may influence certain disorders.

Mapping Brain Structure Variability in Chronic Pain: The Role of Widespreadness and Pain Type and its Mediating Relationship with Suicide Attempt
@njahanshad@USC_LoBeS#chronicpain
https://t.co/RpIqZ3Nwav
Mediation analyses revealed precuneus thickness mediated the relationship between chronic multisite pain and history of a suicide attempt, while the amygdala volume showed the strongest effect for a local pain site, and was specific to individuals with chronic abdominal pain.
