Does the NBOME exist to serve the public, or to advance the profession of osteopathic medicine?

Or does it exist just to feed itself?

The NBOME says that DO students who “prefer to delay [COMLEX-USA Level 2-PE] testing for any reason” can “reschedule when they feel comfortable to do so.”

Take them at their word.

Don’t take their test.

Here’s why.

And at least 2-3 more burdens for most D.O students: COMLEX Level 1-2. Plus the cost of applying to aways through VSAS as some D.O schools don’t have home institutions to rotate through.

Both @AOAforDOs and @NBOME giving each other pats on the back for “protecting patient safety” and “osteopathic identity”. @NBOME knows if given a choice, all D.O students would take USMLE over COMLEX.

I pray to god that I get residency in Texas or any of the other 43 or 44 states that allow D.Os to gain licensure through USMLE. I can’t say I’m surprised by the @NBOME but I’m seriously disappointed in the @AOAforDOs. Not proud to be a D.O student today. @COSGP

Just cancel/dissolve the @NBOME along with their stupid and pointless PE. Let students take one set of boards: the USMLE and call it a day. The USMLE is by far the superior exam and everyone knows it so why go along with @NBOME’s lies and deceit. @NBMEnow @TheFSMB

@RosenelliEM @jbcarmody there is only one US state that formally requires passage of the Comlex PE for licensure. California.

There are six other states that require a US DO to pass the comlex series to receive a license, however they do not specifically require passage of the PE.

@NBOME I have now taken 4 boards exams. USMLE Step 1 & 2CK and COMLEX L1 and L2CE. I without a doubt can say Step is more indicative of my medical knowledge while COMLEX is indicative of how well the stars were aligned that morning. No wonder PDs take Step>COMLEX. Rather take CS than PE

@GamerEMDoc I go to a fairly new DO and our school’s first time STEP pass rate was higher than the first time COMLEX pass rate. Admin was not happy haha

So I keep hearing that @NBOME refuses to cancel the COMLEX Level 2 PE because "it is a licensure requirement." But don't most states allow licensure through USMLE Step exams anyways. So let's just ask @TheFSMB to allow D.Os to get licensure through @NBMEnow Step. Better tests IMO

@drstroder @wiley224 @mustafabasree @NBOME I'm just glad that most states take both USMLE and COMLEX for licensure. As soon as my school drops COMLEX Level PE as a graduate requirement, I'm cancelling my exam. I'd rather take all USMLEs to licensure, they're just more well-written exams IMO

@mustafabasree @NBOME The USMLE exams are like graduate level dissertations in that they're well written and maybe difficult if you didn't study well, but overall fair. The COMLEX exams by comparison are written by a toddler with a crayon, no amount of studying and preparation is enough to prepare you
