@CDNPolicyHawk The last time Canada provided a CNMC was Gen Ray Henault at the height of the Afghan conflict and we had lots of US support for the nomination. Not sure we have that now, and Europe prefers Europeans in the job.
@CDNPolicyHawk I've heard it said that the costs of "green-basing" a nuclear-powered fleet was a major factor in cancelling the 1987 CASAP. Do you think this is still an issue? Surely we can't base nuke-powered vessels in Halifax and Esquimalt?
@DisneyTory The issue with a split fleet is personnel readiness. Submariners who qualify on the KSS-III will have to requalify on the 212CD and vice versa. So basically what a split fleet would do is limit the ability of the navy to transfer people between fleets.
@BrianSantarpia@CDNPolicyHawk And at the time that was written, there were still government imperatives to reduce spending.. hence the comment on finding better ways to run the “enterprise”
@TimDocChoi That connects nicely with Shearwater - i could see a multi-modal expeditionary hub. It just needs a rail connection and a bigger jetty for a JSS or honkin’ big ship
