The @StateDept has accused #Rwanda of unlawfully extracting minerals from the #DRC, asserting that the proceeds from these unlawful activities benefit rebel groups such as #M23. Yesterday, we informed members of the @realDonaldTrump administration and Congress that it is our opinion that the @PaulKagame regime, along with associates and family members, has violated various U.S. statutes by utilizing the U.S. financial system to transfer funds from this illicit trade.

These include violations of the Bank Secrecy Act, the Anti-Money Laundering Act, and provisions of the Foreign Assistance Act and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. We are working with key senior members of Congress to build the case for sanctions, which may include restrictions on accessing the U.S. banking system for President Kagame, his associates, and their families.
