@GregoryConti19 Pope Leoβs Magnifica Humanitas was a shot across the bow for what is going to be an all-timer from the Catholic Church. It is abundantly clear there will be no going quietly into the night.
@hugospdx This is *the* question, IMO.
I apply humanistic psychology and the presence of an inner life to definitions of consciousness. Meanwhile, I know you show behaviors of all that, but I just don't really know beyond me. The answer feels metaphysical.
@ClaudeBindels Totally. I know it's only a hypothetical, but as AI grows more ubiquitous this is the quality people will need to get really good at sussing out in others.
@stephenRB4 You just reminded me to pick up No Country for Old Men again. I donβt love McCarthy but this one resonated back in the day. Solid movie, even better book.
@Lina_CryptoA Even when it feels like a speedrun on expert mode, you should know everyone else often feels the same at some point. Stay true to who you uniquely are and go one day at a time toward the full margins of your soul.
The difference between low-agency and high-agency people is that high-agency people trust their ability to solve problems along the way. They know they don't need a perfect plan. Once you reflect on the many times you've "figured it out," you might learn to trust yourself, too.
@Tim_Denning It's a negative compounding effect. Underachieved many times before? That leaves you feeling that **THIS** time you have to get it right, in one shot.
Those who achieve simply apply themselves with more consistency. Their failures aren't a verdict.
@alidougru We've overhyped productivity. A creative, self-directed mind needs white space during the day to breathe. Staying in motion is good and all, but...we're working against us to fit as much as we can into every day.
I read "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman" in my early 20s. The book helped me live with megatons more curiosity and audacity. I mean look at this gem:
βAll the time you're saying to yourself, 'I could do that, but I won't,' β which is just another way of saying that you can't.β
